AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME: CHAPTER FIVE

Vanessa

The day moved slowly, or maybe I just felt like that because I was completely miserable in my own skin. My mind flooded back to the events of last night throughout the day I kept thinking about how I received a drink and how I ended up a hot mess.

"Vanessa, just the girl I was looking for." A random yet familiar voice greeted as they approached me. My vision was slightly blurry but, I could make out who it was. I rolled my eyes when I noticed his figure. Ryan. Ryan Butler. Someone I once called family.

"What do you want Ryan?" I spat, turning back on my heels. Out of all the chaos I could hear his footsteps closely behind me.

"I heard you like your beer." He announced. Abruptly I stopped and slowly turned around. His hand held two bottles of beer, both already open for me to devour. I sighed and shifted my position so I could get a better look at him.

"Where'd you hear that at?" I questioned, a smirk plastered across my face. He knew previously, a note wasn't necessary. He knew I was infatuated with my liquor.

"Chaz." He coughed, smiling slightly as he played along. I chuckled, "Chaz, my dear friend can never keep his mouth shut. Must've slipped."  I cooed before rolling my eyes.

"Eh, should've known." Ryan licked his lips and smiled down on me, handing me a beer. Pause. Both weren't for me? Butler got me ahead of myself. He's still so clever.

"Thanks." I replied, smiling slightly.

"You look, beautiful." He commented, clearing his throat and sipping on his beer soon, to make a sour face. I busted into a fit of laughter.

"Your first time, I suppose?" I questioned innocently, ignoring his compliment. He sighed and shook his head, "No, you know it's not-" He stated before clearing his throat, recalling the small joke. " It's ass."

I raised an eyebrow, "But, you're drinking it." I stated.

"No dip, I'm thirsty." He spat which made me roll my eyes once again and chug down most of what I assumed to be freshly opened beer.

"That you are." I replied, walking off in the direction I had come from. There was no need for me to find the cooler. My new goal was to get outside, into the backyard; to get away from the cigar smoke that now filled my nostrils. The heel of my platforms clacked against the wooden floor once again soon to hit the pavement outside.

My nostrils flared as Ryan came into mind and so did Chaz. Everything seemed jumbled together. Chaz had told Ryan I wasn't as good as everyone thought I was. Chaz knew I drank liquor but, he never allowed me to do it around him and Ryan would've known how bad it had gotten but, we haven't been as close since my Dad complained about the way he carried himself. It all hit me then,Ryan was trying to make me forget about everything that had been happening for the past month, he was trying to make me remember that we used to have good times together, but that's not what happened; instead I took the beer and moved on with my life and that's the same thing I did to him today in Mr. Hunt's class. I pushed him away and I shouldn't have. I should've allowed him to reconnect with me. He's been trying so hard and all I've done is ignore him which isn't right due to the fact that I'm supposed to be the one on my hands and knees begging for his forgiveness for my father's actions. I shook my head and scoffed soon to remove myself from the modern picnic table that I was sitting at. As I got up I could feel my body slam into another figure which happened to be shaped differently from mine.

"Oh, gosh. I'm sorry." I whispered, looking up at the mysterious guy I bumped into. My lips parted slightly when I realized it was the Guitar Dude, Justin. For a second we just stood there looking into each other's eyes, no words escaping either one of our mouths. His eyes looked soft and calm, the thrill and excitement that were in his honey brown eyes from last night couldn't be seen at all which had me realize he had always been completely sober. He licked his lips and smiled slightly, not sure of what to do. I smiled back in response and walked away, no longer knowing how to make conversation with him. I should've said hey, that's the least I could've done after apologizing. Instead I walked away leaving him behind to look stupid, if that was even possible. I turned my head slightly, glancing at him once again but, all I could see was the back of his head. I sighed and continued to make my way into the building.

"Ryan!" I called, as I removed myself from the wall and chased him down the schools large hallways. I had been waiting an hour for him to be dismissed from detention just so I could apologize for my rude behavior. He turned his head slightly, his eyes staring into mine. However, he soon turned his head back around and continued to walk towards the exit. I huffed and ran faster, my army boots stomping against the title, hard.

"Ryan, listen to me! Just give me a second?" I panted, feeling out of breath.

"Ok?" I begged, my eyes enlarging. He huffed, irritated and turned around, only to reveal an expression that said, "Well, I can't say no" and sure enough he couldn't.
