Chapter One: What Happens in the Dark, Stays in the Dark

"Again?" I ask calming myself from awaking from a nightmare...that one dream. That one dream. I keep having that one dream. My baby monitor comes one "Z, you okay, I heard you scream?" my bestfriend. He's amazing. Always there for me. This whole monitor thing started over the summer when I first started getting the dream. Lynol is his name. He's a womanizer, everywhere we go he attracts girls like a magnet. Lynol doesn't have a girlfriend, he's not the dating type. I use to have a crush on him when we were younger, but I'm over that.

I live with my dad in a raised house in the trees. I like it, my dad does too, of course. He's a scientist and a writer but can't find much time to write. My dad is bestfriends with lynol's dad and they've been working together for years. Did I mention lynol lives in the cabin house next door? And our kitchens connect? Weird. I know, but I like living this life. Except during the school year where we go back to live with lynol's mom. She lives in the city. She so nice and pretty, she also attracts men, but is only dating at this moment...so she says. My mom passed away a few minutes after I was born and lynol's mom has helped my father take care of me. I've called her mom all my life because she was all I knew.

"No, I had that dream again." I hear a knock on my window and lynol comes in. "That was fast" I said looking at him with my eyes barely open because I'm still tired. " You took a long time to answer, I thought you passed out e'r something" he lays in my bed and gets under the covers. "We should probably go back to sleep".... now I'm looking at him with my eyes wide open. "I can't go back to sleep! I just woke up from a nightmare!" "I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Midnight snack?" I roll my eyes and throw my pillow at him as he starts to walk out my room. We go into the kitchen and he starts to make us some PB&J and slices a taffy apple in half and gets some milk.

"When's your dad coming home?" "Next week." I say biting into my sandwich. My dad went to some island two weeks ago for blah blah blah. We finish up and I wash the dishes. "Wanna watch a movie to take your mind off things?" " Sure." I'm in love with Disney movies. I swear they speak to me sometimes. "Let's watch a classic" he says smiling into the wall case full of movies. "Shrek! my favorite" He puts the movie into the blue ray, I pop some popcorn...I'm a fatty lol, and he gets some pop out of the shed.

I wake up and it's about 9 in the morning and I'm in his arms. He's so sweet and protective. Sometimes we have these weird awkward moments, but I act like I don't notice. I run upstairs to take a quick shower. The shower window open, the warm water running down my head and body. I get out wanting to feel the warmth again. I don't feel like straighting my hair so I keep it up in a curly bun.

A howl I hear. Did I get water in my ear? There it is again. "Lynol?!" another howl.

I rush down the stairs to see and there it is....the one in my night mare
