After hours of thinking, Natalie came up with a brilliant idea. She decided to teach at a primary school. The Ai Tong school at Bishan would be a perfect choice. It was situated near Ang Mo Kiyo, the place where Natalie resided in. Quite a convenient location for her. Furthermore, it was a renowned one and obviously the teachers there were paid well.
But, the problem was - which subject to teach?
In her childhood, she had not taken studies seriously as she did not find any interest in that. Rather, she would go out to play with her peers. As a result, she failed in every subject. That did not matter. She was merely a girl. It did not matter whether girls became properly educated or not. That was because they simply couldn't find any benefit in that. At her time, people did not educate girls much - only upto the 5th grade (primary education) did they educate them. Afterwards, they would be married off to an eligible bachelor. After all, it was the boys who one day grew up and took the responsibility of managing the family financially. They simply didn't find any reason in doing that sort of a thing. Of course, there were some exceptions, as well. They protested against the illogical laws and social norms. They established gender equality. However, that took them many years.
