With a bound the white rabbit landed on the soft grass. His feet flew fast under him as if they were lightning even though he was weighed down by the child he was holding in a bundle. He could hear the growl of Alice's hounds and still heard her once soft voice utter those horrible words.
How had this happened?
He remembered it grimly.
"The White Queen is dead." Alice announced without a shred of grief in her voice as she walked into the grand throne room in an extravagant black gown.
There were cries and screams as the Alice that everyone had loved walked into the room with the knife her hands covered in blood and a blank careless expression on her face.
"Alice what happened? Were you attacked?!" The Mad Hatter exclaimed as he rushed to her.
But, before he could get to her, she shot him a gaze that stopped him in his tracks. The White rabbit had now pushed his way through the crowd to see the scene.
"Hatter? What's going on?" He said seeing the horrified look on The Mad Hatter's face as he backed away from Alice slowly.
"What going on?" Alice repeated. "I'll tell you what's going on. Wonderland is now under my control!"
"What!?" "No!" Screams were heard from the room filled with tearful subjects.
"SILENCE!" Alice screamed.
"Alice... Why?" The Mad Hatter cried.
"This is what I deserve isn't it? I saved this world! Yet you cast me out of it! I come and save all of you but I can never stay here... You don't know how horrible the human world is... All I wanted was to stay here! With you! My best friends! But, the white queen refused. She claimed I didn't belong here! That I belonged back up there with those horrid people! She tried to send me back! And I..." She began to cry. "I... I couldn't let her! I will rule wonderland better than she ever could! And I will obliterate everyone and anyone who stands in my way!... Even if it means killing you..." She said pointing the knife towards the Mad Hatter. "There was a prophecy. That the children of the heroes of Wonderland will reclaim it from me. Along with my daughter."
She turned and walked towards the White Queens throne. She sat and a black crown that appeared to be made of thrones appeared on her head.
"Kill them. Kill them all!" She ordered the guard hounds.
"Alice no! I won't let you do this!" Hatter yelled at her.
"Then you give me no choice." Alice threw the knife she had in her hand.
It landed in the Hatter's stomach as he fell limp to the ground.
"Hatter!"
"Goodbye... My dearest friend." Alice said.
"Hear me! Tonight the heroes of Wonderland and their children will die!"
"Protect the prince!" Someone yelled.
The white rabbit managed to get past Alice as she punished the person.
"Your prince will die tonight! Along with the girl!"
"My lady?" A hound questioned.
"You heard me. Kill her. Kill Alison!"The White Rabbit had managed to get all of the other children to safety before they found him again. He decided he had to hide Alison in the one place Alice never wanted to return. The human world.
Time passed differently in Wonderland then it did in the human world. Sometimes it was much slower. Sometimes it was much faster. And sometimes, it stopped completely.
The White Rabbit had no idea how time had decided to pass this time but he noticed that it had changed. A lot.
His main thought was that he need to get away from Alice's hounds and get Alison to a safe place.
Her Grandmother.
She could protect her.
He ran as fast as he could until he got to what he recognized as Alice's old house. He looked behind him and to his relief, the hounds were gone.
Doing the best he could, he tried to fashion a note in Alice's handwriting.
Mie deer mothur,
It mae seem hard to beleev but this child is yor granchild. I can't ecksplain everything at this vary moement. All I ask is that u tayke cair ov her to tha behst ov yor abillitea. She is thee onlee won I hav. I pray that we kan sea eech ahthur soon.
Sinseerlee,
Alice
P.s. Pleese keep tha rabbit with her. I truhst him.
His spelling needed improvement.
He tucked the note into the bundle and carried her up the steps of the house.
It was dark but the White Rabbit could tell that the house looked different. It looked older. A lot older actually.
He shrugged it off as a trick of the eyes due to exhaustion.
When he got to the front door he knocked on it and waited.
Nobody came.
"That's odd..." He said.
His eyes fell upon a little button that he hadn't noticed before. Holding his breathe he pushed the button.
A grand chime sounded throughout the house startling the rabbit.
He prepared himself to run but stopped when he heard movement from inside the house.
He carefully placed Alison on the doorstep and laid down next to her.
The click of the lock woke up Alison and she began to cry.
When the door opened a woman stood there but, it wasn't Alice's mother. The White Rabbit had never seen this woman before. Surely this was the right house?
"Oh my gosh!" The woman exclaimed. "Freddy!" She called into the house as she picked up the sleeping child.
"What is it?" A man voice said as he came to the door. "Is that a baby?"
"Yes."
"Well, what's it doing here?"
"I don't know."
"Look there's a note attached to it."
"My.... Dear.... Mother... It...may....seem.......hard......to.......be-believe.......but....this.....is.....your.....grand..child....." The woman attempted to sound out the words in the letter. "It looks like a child wrote it." She said.
"Or someone who just can't spell at all." Freddy added.
"Sincerely, Alice.... Alice, I know that name." The woman said.
"Bring her inside." Freddy said as he began to close the door.
"Wait!" The woman said. "Get the bunny."
"Bunny?!" The White Rabbit thought.
Freddy reached down and picked up the White Rabbit.
"Alice..." The woman mumbled as she handed Alison to Freddy.
She retrieved a old looking book off the shelve and opened it. Dust flew everywhere.
"Here." She said pointing to a baby picture on family tree. "Alice was my Great-Great Grandmother's sister. She disappeared when she was almost twenty. They said she had a child but neither of them where ever found."
"Meredith, that was over a hundred years ago. There's no way this child is Alice's daughter."
"Over a hundred years ago!?" The White Rabbit thought. "Then what year is it?" He looked frantically around until he spotted a paper with a date written across the top. April 21, 2001
"2001?!?"
"I suppose you're right but then where did she come from?"
"Does it really matter?" Freddy said.
"What do you mean?" Meredith asked.
"We've wanted a child for so long, maybe it's a blessing."
"You think we should keep her?"
"Yes I do."
Meredith smiled and hugged Freddy before she took the baby in her arms.
"What should we name her?" Freddy asked.
"There's a necklace around her neck." Meredith said spotting the little charm. "Alison."
"It's lovely." Freddy said.
Meredith looked over at the White rabbit who was sitting on the couch. To them it looked like any other white rabbit.
"What about him?"
Alison stirred and looked over at the White Rabbit.
"Wh..... White!" She squealed.
"Her first word..." The white rabbit thought. "It was my name."
"Aww how cute. I guess your name is White then." Meredith said.
The White Rabbit got up and hopped over to Alison she put her tiny arms around him and held him tightly.
The White Rabbit had succeeded. Alison was safe.
But, for how long?
