Mother

She looked at her child

Playing with toys on the dining chair

How innocent she is – how young she is

She ran off, with toys in her hands.

Standing on that chair, she looks up at the fan

Rope in her hand

Tying the rope round her neck – the other end around the fan

She let go, knocking the chair away from her, this was her end.

I don’t deserve a lovely child,

A loving home,

I’m worthless

I don’t deserve to live.

But I was safe

Though not for long

I listen to the sound of my heart beating

Knowing it’s about to stop.

What she didn’t consider

Was that she left a little child

Alone – motherless

To grow up, without the love of a mother

That the pain

Would be beyond compare

Seeing the mothers of her friends

Pick them up from school, while she walked home - alone.

Did you consider, mother,

That I would feel the loneliness forever

That the feeling of not being worth living for

Will stay with me forever.

Now I stay up all night

Thinking what it would have been like

If I was worth living for – would you have stayed?

Would you have lived for me?
