Miley walked out of the bakery, glad that it was her last day at work. Luckily, she had been able to get a holiday job, which would allow her to be able to pay for her transformation. Feeling a tingle in her stomach just thinking about it, she continued on her way home.
Soon, she would be eighteen. Only a month was left. Personally, Miley had thought she was a perfectly average person. Her grades, her looks and her personality were average, but she had thought that she was a cooler average, not a basic average. Yet, sadly she was. She hadn't managed to get a boyfriend since she'd started high school. No boy had taken a single notice of her.
Miley had recently bought a book called Puppy Love and that was her inspiration. The book contained steps to love and be loved. She had already started with the first step which was :
Be positive and smile all the time.
So when the rain began to fall, before she was even halfway home, she remained positive, smiled and jumped in the puddles all the way home.
Excited to start with the next step, she jumped harder into the puddles, getting muddy water all over her boots. Her short hair was sticking to her face, wet from the rain but she wasn't bothered. Miley was determined to follow through with the book. She would finally know what it was like to love and be loved.
Her best friend, Tasha, was convinced that the book was a scam but Miley managed to get her to join her on her mission- even though Tasha already had a boyfriend.
Shaking her head, she remembered how Tasha changed boyfriends like they were underwear, telling her that hers would come soon.
Well, Tasha had 15 boyfriends in 3 years and still, hers didn't come. At first Miley wondered if there was something wrong with her. She wondered if she looked bad, smelled bad or walked bad. If it was the way she spoke or if it was her personality that made her unwanted.
She still doesn't know. What she does know, is that Puppy Love is not a scam. And she was going to prove it to Tasha.
Walking through the park was compulsory to get to the other side of Laker's Avenue, where her house was. She stopped jumping into the puddles and looked right and left before crossing over to the park's entrance. In the past she had always dreaded this part of her walk because it constantly reminded her of what she lacked.
Today, however, she would be positive. She opened the old rusty gate and stepped through it, walking on the luscious green grass. A sigh escaped her lips as she watched a couple standing by a tree, under an umbrella. They were carving their names into the tree. Miley had longed to have someone to hold her and stare at her so deeply like that.
She remembered the first step and walked towards them.
"Aww, that's so cute. How long have you two been together?" She asked, smiling brightly. Miley hoped that her attempt at being friendly didn't make her look crazy. It was very awkward to talk to strangers, but she had to try.
"Three months," The boy replied, putting his arms around his girlfriend. His girlfriend was watching Miley, as if waiting for her to go.
"That's good. I'm Miley," She said, "I was just walking past when I saw how cute you guys were.. so I decided to say hi." Miley realised how crazy she must look, bothering them. She really had no life.
"I'm Maya and he's Alex," the girl said, finally speaking. Miley suspected that it was because she wanted to get rid of her. She got the message.
"Pleased to meet you guys. Well, I gotta get going or I'll never make it home. It was nice meeting you," She said and walked away from them.
Miley walked on home, glad that she had mastered the first step. She should be given a crown for being the queen of smiles and positivity. She didn't see the couple as a reminder of what she lacked, instead she saw them as what she would soon have. Although she was greeted with hostility- on the girl's part- she remained positive.
Eventually, Miley got home.
"MUM, I'm home!" She shouted, walking through to the lounge. Miley rolled her eyes when she got no answer. Her mother was at it again.
"Mum?"
