Only one week had just passed and already, everything had changed. Wayne was back to his normal self and Alex stopped staring at me weirdly. There was just one week of summer left and honestly, I was pretty sad. This summer had been really good, despite all the madness. I'd met some pretty good friends and overall, I had a great time.

"I can't believe there's only one week of summer left," I sighed.

"I know. I'm gonna miss you all so much! Luckily we have Facebook so we can always keep in touch," Simone replied.

"Yeah, add me you guys! How about we do something special to celebrate the end of this summer?" Alex suggested.

"Why on Earth would we want to celebrate the end of summer? Shouldn't we all be at home on the last day, crying because of school on the very next day?" Simone complained.

"No, we'll celebrate. We can all go out to the movies or somewhere"

"We can discuss that later. Let's go get some ice-cream and go to the beach after work today," Wayne said.

"Sure. I've only had ice-cream once this summer," I said.

"Are you kidding me? No way! You need to get some more ice-cream pumped inside your body. I don't even know how you survived with only having ice-cream ONCE!" Simone cried.

"Don't blame me!" I replied.

"Okay, what do you all say? Ice-cream and beach after?" Wayne asked.

"Yeah, definitely!" we all cried out.

"Great! And don't worry, there isn't going to be any fights"

"Good"

The long walk to the ice-cream parlour was awkward. No one was talking. Everyone was probably thinking their own thoughts.

"What flavour ice-cream are you getting?" Simone asked me, to break the awkward silence.

"Probably vanilla," I replied.

"Gosh girl, you're so boring! Get mint with dark choc-chip with me!"

"Haha, okay!"

As soon as we all got our ice-cream, Wayne decided to have a mini competition. Whoever finished their ice-cream first got to choose someone to run into the ocean with their normal clothes on. I didn't want anyone to choose me because I hated getting my clothes wet so I tried quickly eating my ice-cream, only to see it fall to the ground because of a passing jogger.

"Aww, Lauren's ice-cream fell!" Simone pointed out.

"Does that mean I won?" I asked, laughing as my ice-cream melted on the ground.

"No, that means you have to run into the ocean with your clothes on!!!" Alex yelled as he pushed me further away, closer to the ocean.

"Nooo!" I yelled as I tried to run away. I had only run a few metres when Wayne caught up to me and said that if I didn't go into the ocean he would stuff his ice-cream on my face. I guess I had no other choice but to go into the ocean.

"GO LAUREN! GO LAUREN! GO LAUREN!" I heard my friends call out.

"Aargh, this is SO hard!" I shouted.

"KEEP GOING, YOU'RE NEARLY THERE! I'M COUNTING TO 3! 1...2..."

"WAIT, I'M GOING IN! CALM DOWN!"

I decided to just run straight into the ocean. The water was already up to my knees.

"KEEP GOING!!" I heard Wayne call out. I went further until the water reached up to my waist. I wasn't going any further than this!

"NOW SWIM! YOU CAN'T JUST COME OUT HALF-WET!"

Aargh, I had to swim now?!

*

"HAHA! Oh my god, I can't believe you just did that, Laur!"

"The water was so cold! GET ME A TOWEL SOMEONE!" I ordered. I was so cold I felt like I was in Antarctica!

"Here!" Alex said as he passed me a fresh towel.

"Where did you get this?" I asked.

"From a nearby hobo"

"WHAT?!"

"Hahaha, just kidding. I got it from that hotel over there," Alex said as he pointed to a hotel.

"Wow, they actually gave you one?"

"I said it was an emergency"

"Wow, thanks!"

I dried myself up and together, we all walked to Alex's house. Then from there, we were going to drop off Wayne at his house, then go to my house and then Simone's.

"Bye Alex!" we all called out as Alex went inside his house.

"Bye guys!" he replied.

*

Simone and I had already dropped off Wayne at his place and then together, we walked to my house. I rang the doorbell because I didn't have the house keys and Dani opened the door for me.

"Well hello there, strangers!" Dani greeted me and Simone.

"Haha, Dani, this is Simone. Simone, this is my sister, Dani," I introduced them.

"Hi Dani!"

"Hello Simone! Would you like to come in for some tea?"

"Oh, no thanks! I'd better get going"

"No, Simone, it's okay. Stay over for a while"

"Maybe some other time, because I really need to get going. But thanks anyways! See you tomorrow, Laur!"

"Alright, bye!" I replied as I waved Simone goodbye.

Just 4 more days. 4 more days and I'll be back to being stuck in my own home doing algebra problems. 4 more days and summer will be over. I sighed as I saw Simone walking towards her house. There was only a little bit of time left to hang out with the friends I made during this summer.
