Chapter 12

I stared at him, trying to decode his words. Nothing presented itself.

"So why didn't you?" I asked, looking away, the wind brushed across my face.

"She would have never believed me," he replied, under his breath as if trying to convince himself of his own words.

"Jané said she overheard you and her date talking bad about Kat at the dance, that's not true is it?" I asked, it made sense now. Jané was jealous of Sage and Kat's relationship, she had never had a boyfriend who would make time for her inbetween classes or any time for that matter.

"Trevor? I didn't spend more than five minutes on him that night, besides you know i don't believe in hurting for no reason." he looked at me, his eyes were hard, searching for belief in my own.

"Jané broke you up," I whispered, almost to myself.

He smiled, " Kat needs to learn that not everything Jané has to say is worth listening to."

"She clearly doesn't know you," i shook my head.

"She never will," he said standing up, " besides, this other babe was totally digging me that night,"

I laughed at his dazed expression, he was running his hand through his hair clearly showing his vanity.

"Oh really, " I asked, checking him out. He was leaning back slightly with one hand in his pocket and other in his hair.

"Yeah, really!" he beamed at me, " did you not see Natalie and Natasha batting their eyelashes at me?"

I hadn't noticed them at the dance, " well why don't you go for one of them," I said, but i wished i hadn't.

"Or both of them," he did his famous smirk, jealousy stabbed me in the gut, " I'm kidding!"

He helped me to my feet and we started clearing the picnic away. Today had been one of the best i had had in a long time. I felt like nothing would come between our friendship, Sage was one person i could depend on.

"I should get going, my mom is expecting me home soon," i said glancing at my watch : 5:30pm.

"Already?" he asked, looking disappointed, "Okay then, Ill text you okay?"

"Okay," I smiled as he pulled me in for a hug.

I felt my feet lift off the floor, and then we were spinning. So close, Body to body, the wind shoved against us, begging for way between us but there was none. I giggled until he stopped, then he lifted me higher, i placed my hands on his shoulders and looked down at him.

"Someone's been working out," I said, noticing his strength.

"Gotta make sure nobody messes with your pretty, little face," He grinned, putting me down and holding me tighter than before," Ill never let anything happen to you, " he whispered into my hair.

Security guarded me, i felt safe.
