Lars leaned back against the striped beach towel. Sadie, right next to him, was reading a book sitting criss-cross on her own towel with music notes sprayed across the fabric.
He sighed and laced his fingers behind his head, closing his eyes and letting the sun beat against his bare chest.
It was hot but it was usually hot in Beach City during its summers. He didn't understand why Sadie would rather be outside in the sun instead of chilling inside Sadie's room with the AC and some good movies along with the food Sadie's ma would basically shove down their throats. But she'd rather be outside with her nose in a book, not even bothering to swim despite being so close to the ocean.
"So we're just going to sit here?" Lars deadpanned, removing his arm from across his eyes to take a glance at his blonde friend.
She turned the page before looking to Lars then returned her gaze to the book, "yes. It's a nice day outside so we may as well enjoy it."
"A nice day? This is a horrible day. We should be inside with air conditioning."
She snorted and shook her head, turning another page, "you won't die from a little outdoor time, Lars."
"...You don't know that." he replied then closed his eyes, placing his hands on his stomach. Honestly, Sadie's ma's cooking sounded really  good right now.
He didn't open his eyes until a shadow had crossed over his eyes, and when he did he saw Ronaldo. He closed his eyes again to avoid locking eyes with the avid blogger.
     "Sadie," Ronaldo greeted, "Lars."
"Hey, Ronaldo," Sadie said, closing her book while keeping a finger between the pages.
"What's going on here? Anything... weird?" He grinned but both of them could tell he was serious.
"Nothing but you," Lars said lowly, opening an eye to catch his somewhat annoyed stare. He sat up.
"Anyways... I'm having a horror movie marathon tonight at the my house tonight. You wanna come?"
Lars rolled his eyes. He had noticed it a bit more then a month ago. Noticed what, you may ask? Their secret relationship. If you really watched you could tell that they were a thing. The way she'd find a reason to touch him whether it be a playful slap to the arm or a full-on hug. It pissed him off but he didn't know why. He didn't like Sadie so it shouldn't even matter what the pair do.
Sadie tapped the spine of her book and paused for a minute, "yeah, I could probably make it. Is it okay if Lars comes, too?"
Ronaldo glanced to the gauged boy then shrugged, "sure, why not?"
Lars cocked a brow in Sadie's direction. Who died and made her the boss? Who said he'd even be going? Why would he want to sit through a movie just so he could be a third wheel?
"You'll come won't you, Lars?" Sadie's asked, flashing a hopeful smile. Lars frowned.
"...Fine," Lars muttered, squinting in the sunlight.
Ronaldo pursed his lips and laced his fingers together behind his back.
     "I'll see you tonight."

"Hey,  don't pick me up," Sadie said over the phone as Lars plucked his keys from the key hook by the front door.
"Why the hell not?" he asked skeptically, "Don't tell me you're not coming."
"What? No, of course I'm coming. I just gotta finish up these chores before I go. It'll take me about an hour so I don't want you to have to wait. Tell Ronaldo to start without me."
He sighed. Great. Awkward alone time with Sadie's boyfriend. How wonderful.
"Ugh! Fine! Hurry, man, I don't want to be there alone for too long..."
"Why? You scared~?" Sadie giggled teasingly, the sound of dishes clanking in the background echoed through the speaker.
Lars slammed the car door shut with a scoff, digging the keys into the ignition. "Scared? Of course not! The only thing I'm afraid of is fry boy's blog talk," he laughed despite Sadie's scold.
"Oh, leave him alone! I gotta go, Lars. I'll see you in a bit!" then she hung up. Lars groaned and thumped his head against the steering wheel.
"Why did I agree to this?" he asked himself, twisting the key until the engine revved. With a final check to his phone he pulled out of the driveway and into the street.
Why did Lars have to be stuck doing babysitting duty while Sadie was gone? He didn't even want to go in the first place! He sighed. All he had to do was sit through a movie until Sadie arrived, then he could make his escape to avoid any awkward third wheel action.
