I zipped up my last bag and slowly crept down the stairs. My parents still didn’t know I was leaving. I had planned it all out. I wrote a letter telling them not to worry and that I’d be back in two weeks. I placed the letter on the dinning table where I knew my mother would find it. All that was left to do is sneak out. That was the only problem. I didn’t know how to “sneak out” I had never left the house late at night without permission. I had never snuck out when I was grounded, simply because I had never been grounded. I was the perfect goody-two-shoes daughter that every parent wants.
I grabbed my travel bag and quietly dragged it threw the main floor. Thankfully both my parents went to sleep early. It made my job twenty times easier. I hadn’t spoken to my parents much after the argument that had happened a few days ago at dinner. I felt that if I spoke to them my secret would just flow out f my mouth. I had booked a taxi earlier this afternoon. I closed the front door quietly and slipped into the taxi waiting outside. I told the taxi where to go and we were off. I had only $300 cash on me but I had my credit card on me just incase I needed more money, which I would definitely need.
The flight was to leave at 11:30 pm, which was only an hour from now. The taxi pulled up beside the entrance of the airport. The driver was kind enough to help me with my luggage. I thanked with a $20 tip and entered the airport. The Calgary airport was quite small compared to most airports but that made it so much easier for me to find the right gate. I stood at the check-in as the airport security scanned both my bags and I. When I reached the lounge for our flight there was only a half hour left. There were only a few seats empty and I silently took a seat.
“Sarina? What are you doing here?” Rose’s voice chirped from a seat behind me. Her loud but still sweet voice was easy to recognize. I turned around in my chair and flashed her a smile.
“Obviously going on a trip, Rose.” A voice, I recognized as Landon’s said. They were both standing in front of me now. Rose wacked Landon on the head before turning back to me.
“What I meant is, I didn’t know you were coming on this trip.” Rose said glaring at Landon who was now flirting with some brunette sitting across from me.
“It was a… last minute decision. But, I’m glad I know someone on the trip.” I replied smiling at her. Landon returned his attention back to us.
“You actually know three people on this trip. Rose, Cameron and I.” He informed me. I nodded. I already knew that but I didn’t want them to feel creeped out that I kind of-sort of followed them on this trip. Right as I nodded, a familiar looking Cameron walked into our conversation. He wore his usual jeans with a tight t-shirt. He had his right arm around some bimbo.
No don’t get me wrong. I don’t go around calling people rude things. She just has it coming for her. I mean we were both wearing shorts but mine cover my arse unlike hers. Her top was even more sickening. Her breasts were basically spilling out of her low cut hot pink top. I rolled my eyes and looked back at Rose to see her doing the same thing.
Finally noticing me, Cameron spoke “And what might you be doing on this trip?” He asked as if he didn’t think I was capable of coming. I glared at him.
"Same as you, going to have fun.” I spat back. I was going to have fun whether it was the last I did.
“You and fun? That’s like Cameron and one girl.” Landon said only to receive a hurt expression from Cameron’s little bimbo.
“He’s just kidding. I’m a one girl kind of guy.” Cameron assured the girl. Rose scoffed and I mumbled a “Ya, right.”
“Attention everyone who is going on Flight 236. We are now boarding please make your way on to the plane.” The Flight attendant announced. We all grabbed are grabs and made our way to the plane. The flight attendants checked our passwords and tickets before escorting us into the plane. I was almost on when I finally flashed back to reality. I had never travel by myself before. I had never even left the province without my parents. I stood there still watching as both Rose and Landon disappeared into the plane with the rest of the boarders.
I felt a comforting arm on my shoulder. “Are you alright?” The boy, whom I recognized as Cameron asked. I tried to nod but I couldn't I was just frozen. Cameron turned me so I was facing him. “It’s alright, I’m here. You don’t need to worry. Come on.” He assured me before entering the plane. I don’t know why but his words of “wisdom” comforted me. But they did.
Cameron snatched my ticket out of my hand and led me to my seat. He placed my carry on in the top compartment and before I could sit down he whispered in my ear “We are seat buddies!” I gave him a confused look before it hit me. We were sitting beside each other for the next 10 hours and 14 minutes. This was going to be a hell of a long plane ride.
