Please comment and you might get a chance to be wattpad dedicated. I would like to know what you people think about my work: good or bad.

Other than that, this is dedicated to my sister Sarah. You'll soon see why.

I will add the other chapter on the 1/Jan. Thank you.

Chapter Four

"Your tail...it's...it's just like mine," I stared at her blue tail, motionless.

"Obviously, this is kind of a shock. I know it probably is if you thought you were on your own, right?" she said.

I thought I was on my own, yes, I said in my head. I thought I was, just for a few years of my mermaid life. And yet, finally, the day I never thought would come true. I would see myself, lying in a pool at Barcelona, tail just skimming the bottom of it face to face with another of my kind. Does this prove their was more of us. And then I knew, I must stick to her like glue, best friends for eternity, sisters even. I hugged her to show my gratitude to her.

"What...what was that glow?" I questioned her. She probably knew more than me. She wanted me to avoid it.

"You don't know what that was. Well," she gave a sighed laugh and tried to explain what it was. It was what she called a 'Serena Demon#' meaning Mermaid Demon. The red glow is to mark danger to all of the mermaids. It's powers were more stronger than all of the mermaids across Earth put together, although it could not transform into a mythical creature. The Serena Demon can see us mermaids as we see them. A glow surrounding us, but the colours depend on the colour of our tail. For example, me and Jessica, as she told me what her name was half-way through the conversation, both have blue tails so, to the Demons we would have a blue glow around us as well as seeing us in our mermaid form when we've transformed. But as well as having a powerful sight they have a powerful mind. Hurtful enough, they see us as a danger to the world. They think, in their mind, that it's good if they destroy us. We're unknown in this world. To be honest, if you saw a glowing person in a pool with a mermaid tail, you would be worried.

"My name's Toni, by the way".

"It's not short for..." she began.

"No," I interrupted with a polite laugh,"It's not short for Antonia, it's just Toni".

"Okay," she said with an awkward smile. We swam silently together, collecting different ideas about our kind. She then suddenly stopped and screwed up her face, daydreaming. Curiously, I swam over to her, underwater to keep my hair wet and smooth instead of frizzy and I tried carefully not to scratch my fin at the bottom of the pool. I got up from the water and leaned my head up against the edge of the pool.

"Something up?" I asked.

"Do...do you have a sister?" She questioned confusingly.

I thought it was quite random for her to ask me but if it bothered her mind that much,"Yeah, she's my twin and then I have an older sister-".

"And are they one of us?" she interrupted.

"No, no, they're just normal," I said and then I re-thought my sentence through, "Not meaning that were not normal but...," I hesitated.

"Okay," she said and then there was a slight murmured sentence from her that sounded like 'Must be just me, then'.

"Huh?" I stupidly said.

Jessica sighed and looked up at me, "Look I've got something to show you but-. Hide!" She shouted as she followed the Serena Demon with her eyes. As the Serena Demon passed, Jessica slowly lifted her head from the water.

"I have a sister too," she said with a childish grin upon her face," But she is different, like us, but little".

I was confused. What did she mean by different. Different from us or different from them, the humans. And little. I was little when I discovered I was a mermaid. Seven. Jessica must have only first transform when she just started her teens. I think I must have screwed up my face with confusion because it weren't long before Jess had responded.

"Look, come with me," She said as she grabbed my wrist tightly and look me out of the dark tunnel that we were hiding in. We were going to the shallow end where I saw Miami sitting on the egde of the pool, laughing at Thomas who looked like he's just had an argument with somebody about who's going to go on the water slide first.

We stopped at 4ft in the pool, where she dragged me to the edge of the pool next to a set of four chairs. There was a little girl, I'd say six, sitting on the floor.

" Sarah, this is Toni, she's a mermaid. Toni, this is my sister, she's one of us but like I said, she's little".

"Hey," she said to me, childishly.

I responded back, politely as always.

"Sarah, why don't you come into the pool? Give your legs a rest," Jessica said to Sarah. As a result, Sarah sighed as she got off from the floor and jumped in the pool. Never in my life have I seen such a professional swimmer so young. She had to add a sarcastic comment at the end. She held Sarah's wrist as she whispered,"And your tail a stretch".

When her head lifted from the water I noticed a birthmark. It was a familiar shape, like a heart. It was on the right side of her neck, slightly hidden within golden brunette hair. I stared at it, there was something very strange about that birthmark and I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

"I have that birthmark as well," said Jessica, obviously seeing me stare at Sarah's neck.

As soon as she said that, I knew that that something I couldn't put my finger on was a connection between us. I stared at my reflection in the water and saw a light brown mark on the right side of my neck, the shape of a heart.

"Me too," I said, shoving my hair behind my shoulders.

"Must be a mermaid thing," she replied back, whispering, with a childish laugh.

"Toni, c'mon, we gotta get ready for tonight!".

"Coming Miami," I shouted,"I've got to go, Jess, but I had a great time. And I've finally discovered I'm not alone. Thank you". I turned around and swam to where my parents were.

"See you tomorrow," Jess said with a worried tone to her voice.

With that, I re-thought,"Actually," I turned round to face them,"It's our last full day today, here".

We all looked sad. This was theday when we finally discovered that we all weren't alone and that had to be ruined. Everything has to be ruined for me. For them. For us. Sarah had climbed out of the pool and reached for a bag next to one of the sun loungers. She grabbed something out of it and jumped back in the water.

"Here," she said as she handed me a pen,"Write down your phone number, your e-mail, anything. We have to keep in contact".

"Agreed," Jessica and I said strongly.

I reached out for Jess' hand as I started to write both my number and my e-mail. After, I handed Sarah back her pen, turned around and headed back towards my parents.

"Don't wash it off".

"Don't worry, try not too," Jess laughed.

From then on, I knew I was never going to be alone.

#A Serena Demon is a person who cannot transform into a mer creature but has specific powers. It can see the mer creatures when the humans cannot. For the safety of the mer creatures, they see the Demon's with a red glow around them to symbolise danger while the Demon's themselves see the mermaids with a glow depending on the colour of their tail and they can also see the tails when the mer creatures have transformed.
