"You'll be fine Swara. Just don't babble and please do not trip on your own feet!" Swara murmured as she buttoned her shirt. She smoothed her silky black hair and looked at herself in the mirror. She was wearing a long red skirt with a hot white blouse and a gorgeous pair of black boots.
Despite that what she saw was a nerd with her sunglasses perched on top of her button nose and lips which are a little bit too wide and big brown eyes. She wished she was as beautiful as her sister Ragini and as toned as her as well. She sucked in her stomach and muttered,
"I would be slim if I could resist my mom's cooking." She knew that this was never going to happen. Her mom and both her Dadi and Dida were all awesome cooks and their cooking was praiseworthy, a trait which had not been passed on to either Swara or Ragini, much to her chagrin.
"Are you ready Shona?" her mom poked her head in her room. Sharmistha Gadodia was gorgeous; from the top of her natural long black hair to the tip of her French-manicured toe nails. Swara looked at her own bitten nails and sighed. Being pretty had never been one of her concerns- hacking and singing were her top priority.
Swara smiled at her mom and nodded.
"Yeah I'm ready. I'm just scared that I'm gonna start babbling or fall on my face and embarrass myself."
Sharmistha inwardly winced and smiled fondly at her daughter. Swara had a record for embarrassing herself. She was either always falling or was saying things which were inappropriate. Like father, like daughter.
She entered Swara's room and caressed her hair before kissing her forehead.
"You'll be fine. Don't worry and keep practicing your breathing exercises, they will help you relax," Sharmistha advised.
"Yes mom, I will not forget it," Swara rolled her eyes. Since moving into the baddi, Sharmistha had taken an interest in yoga, something which she dragged both her daughters into.
"Shona? I brought you some good luck snacks for your interview!" Dadi shouted from the kitchen. Dadi was always baking her cakes whenever she was starting something new. It had started on her first day of Standard 1 when Swara had stuffed her face so much with the chocolate cakes her Dadi had baked for her, that she had puked on her first crush, Karan. Talk about first impression.
Nonetheless after each vacation Dadi always baked her cakes on the first day and this had not changed since then.
"Coming Dadi!" Swara called back.
Swara kissed her mom on the cheek before grabbing her bag and going to meet her Dadi.
"Here my Shona! Drink this milk and eat a cake; it will bring you good luck," Dadi said, putting a tall glass of milk on the kitchen island and unpacking half a dozen yummy chocolate cupcakes. Dadi was a short but extremely strict lady. Do not be fooled by her size, when she gets angry, everyone goes into hiding from fear, probably where both Swaragini got their temper.
She also took yoga classes with Sharmistha and Swara and had a side of sass with her that both sisters had inherited.
"You look so pretty my Shona ! Maybe you'll find a wonderful man there!" Dadi gushed, clapping her hands and jumping excitedly. Both Dadi and Dida had been setting up blind dates for Swaragini for years now, hoping that they would both settle down and provide them with grandchildren. The blind dates were from doctors to engineers but none of them had interested the two sisters much to the dismay of the two women.
Their mom on the other hand was not that fussed because she wanted both her daughters to choose when they felt the time and guy was right.Swara grabbed a cake and sat down at the dining table. She will have to work out a little bit more to lose these extra calories. "Oh well, you win some, you lose some" and by winning she meant the delicious cakes coz they are worth the extra work out.
