I always thought my team was sturdy. A wall I could lean on when I was broken, but now there is a reason to think otherwise.
My team consists of Agent Jackson, almost always Leanne, Lisa, and Agent Jace. We're all spy students. I call us agents and spies, but it won't be official until our senior year of high school. We're sophomores as of now. There are rumours about me graduating early, but I know it's unlikely - even for me. I mean I am the head of my class... and every class in the United States...It's no big deal; but it is.
The cold water sliding down my throat feels colder as I think about a leak in my team. Could it be Agent Lisa, Agent Jace, or could it be Agent Jackson. No, it couldn't be him. He's watched my back for years now. He wouldn't hurt our team, would he?
And Agent Lisa, she's been so nice to everyone always. When I wasn't at my best she was always there with a compliment. Agent Lisa is just such a positive person; I can't imagine her doing something like this. And she's one of my best friends!
Agent Jace has always been a little bit awkward, but definitely not a traitor. He's also more of a book type and I respect that. Agent Jace doesn't really do field work anyway. He's more behind the scenes. How could he betray us from a beat-up van a mile away from the action.
Now that leaves Leanne and she wasn't even here. She couldn't have sabotaged us even if she wanted to. It would be impossible and she's my best friend in the whole world. She would never put me in danger! We care for eachother more than we care for ourselves. She was my first friend and I was hers.
I've been so lost in thought when we get to the school and the helicopter lands Agent Jackson says, "Little bit lost my friend?" His tone says he's joking with me, but the joke is true. I was lost in thought.
"I...uh..." I stutter, my cheeks burning bright red.
"Well...are you getting out of the copter, princess?" He pokes smirking. I blush redder and jump out. He jumps out. Agent Jackson elbows me and smiles.
I know Agent Jackson did seem like a serious person, but he's the biggest jokester I've ever come across! He puts his arm around me and I say, "Agent Jackson-" he cuts me off.
"Call me Jackson."
"It's not a proper spy name and-" I stutter.
He cuts me off again, "Do I look like I care?" Coming from anyone else it would've been an insult, but coming from Agen- Jackson who says it so softly and so sweetly it can't be. I blush harder. Why am I doing this? I'm now alone - at night - with a boy - who is a spy. I've only know him for almost three years and here everyone's a spy. Sometimes not for us. Especially with a rogue on the loose. I try and turn to leave, but Jackson grabs my arm.
"You're not leaving yet." He says softly, but firmly. My green eyes search for a way out. "I...urm..." I spin on my heels turning.
He smiles at me, "Good job tonight, Liz." Jackson pecks me on the cheek. I'm pretty sure my cheeks are now at maximum red. I don't correct him. He let's me leave after looking at me for a second.
I hurry back to my dorm room. I missed it. And my friends. Lisa is already there and the minute I walk in Leanne tramples me with her 'signature' hug. "I'm glad you're back."
I smile, "Me too." Lisa, Leanne, and I are all best friends, but I've known Leanne longer than anybody. Lisa is an amazing friend though.
As a spy, trust does not come easily. Right now I'm just trying to decide who I can trust.
