Little Did He Know

Assassin.

It was one cold Wednesday morning when I decided to jog by the sea nearby; the cold breeze blowing through the trees that surrounded me as I sprinted.

There were dog owners walking their dogs and children flying their kites by the sea shore, a guy who sold balloons and the ice cream man catching the attention of the children.

I took a short break, admiring the sun that rose behind the clouds while I drank from my bottled water.

I noted that there was a ferris wheel I could see from afar, probably a few miles away.

My gaze from the ferris wheel shifted towards a girl seated at the bench, her hands quickly sketching the image of the sun rising before dipping her paint brush into the palette and painting the colors of the sky onto the canvas.

She mixed, added, and made new colors on the pallete; almost capturing the colors painted within the sky.

She added more details for a few more minutes before packing her things and walking away from where I stood. My eyes caught a glimpse of her satchel labeled 'Jaye' when she walked past me.

I saw her walk into a coffee shop not too far from where the sea is, possibly going to grab some coffee. My eyes never left her

for I always had a thing torwards beautiful mysterious things.

She left the shop and called for a cab to pick her up. Once one pulled up in front of her, she climbed in and drove away from the sea much to my dismay.

Thursday.

Assassin left Liza and the rest to go jogging once again. He believed it was better than staying at Demon Harry's apartment all the time.

He passed by the shore full of families having morning walks by the sea. The usual ice cream man and the guy who sold balloons engaging in a conversation. He walked past the same trees from yesterday, the only difference is that they stood still, the leaves no longer rustling due to the wind.

And as he made his way to the bench, there she was; drinking coffee while sketching the happy family sharing sandwhiches. He stood a fair distance away from the bench, not wanting her to catch him staring at her.

But he couldn't help but walk closer, bending over to act as if he was tying his shoe laces.

He got to look a little closer at her drawing and see how close the resemblance was. Though there was a twist, instead of smiles the family had frowns sketched on their faces.

After what he saw, he couldn't stop himself from wanting to see more of her works everyday.

-
3rd person.

He went out for a run everyday, making the others tease him about getting into shape. 'I already am', he would always say in return. But they didn't know the only reason he looked forward to waking up everyday was her.

Her and her art.

But today was different.

She wasn't there.

She wasn't in the same bench she would be drawing on every eight o'clock in the morning, she wasn't there with her usual cup of latte, she wasn't there being his main distraction from all things around him.

He sat down on the bench, searching around the place looking for her but little did he know that she was observing him from behind a tree because she knew, she knew he was watching her this whole time.

She brought out her drawing pad and drew him, a layer of sweat on his skin while he drank from his bottled water. He looked like he was looking for something. 'Probably me' she thought to herself, but Jaye wasn't one to assume.

When he had given up searching for her, he stood up and went around the place once more. Letting some time pass thinking she must have been caught in traffic.

She walked towards the bench when she caught no sight of him anymore, she sat down and simply brought out a book to read, not wanting to do anything else today. Though there was a drawing in between the pages she intended to give to him today.

He saw her sitting on the bench when he went for another round. She wasn't drawing and that disappointed him a tiny bit; because through her drawings he always got an idea of how her mind works, of how she was as a person. Instead, she was reading a book, her brown eyes scanning the page as she read silently.

He looked down at his wrist watch to see that it was nearly time for her to leave, but it was different this time

She stood from the bench and turned to face him. He was about to make a run for it until she walked towards him and he didn't want to leave anymore. For he always wanted to know what her voice sounds like, he wanted to know what it is like to talk to her.

She came in face to face with him. They were staring at each for a few seconds, green to brown. He took that oppurtinity to take in every detail of her being and she did the same, too.

She then broke the silence. "Am I pleasing to watch, bro?" She smiled at him. He chuckled slightly and said in reply "Very." she pressed her lips into a line before speaking "Well why don't you start to come and talk to me so you can watch me even closer." She laughed and he laughed along with her.

"M'names Jaye." she offered her hand for him to take, which he did gladly. "I'm Harry." he nodded.

And that's where it all began.

Harry and Jaye walked on the sea shore while talking about anything and everything. He discovered that she lived alone and that her birthday was 2 weeks from now and she discovered a few facts about him herself. He told her he lived with a couple of friends and he wasn't the kind of person to interact with people much -He left out the fact that he was an assassin, of course.

Jaye even offered to buy them ice cream but Assassin quickly declined. And before he even knew it, she was leaving again.

They said their goodbyes and Jaye walked ahead of him, but she suddenly stopped to smile and wave at him, catching him off guard.

He smiled and waved back, his heart beating a steady rhythm.

She mesmerized him.

The way she strokes her brush, the way she looks so focused when painting, the way she ordered the same coffee everyday. It mesmerized him all.

She is book wide open yet hard to read;  she was odd and not in a good way but that was what made it so appealing, that fueled his desire to know her.

He left that day, the thought of Jaye never leaving his mind as he recalled their first meeting over and over again. He couldn't get enough of her.

So he came back for more the next day,

And the day after that.

He never stopped.
