CHAPTER 6: I Know What You Did (Last Summer)

B R Y A N

I tried erasing the scene from last night. I hate seeing Brandon like that; it's depressing me. Better tell the truth which hurts than make the person we love believe a lie which provides temporary happiness, I chanted to myself to drown guilt.

Sure, we slip in each other's clothes and pretend to be the other one for the whole day—but that was before! We were kids then! It's different now—fun time's over. No one's going to benefit from "switching"; as far as I know, movies have already told those bad outcomes and consequences.

I know it's "just for a day," but I know Brandon.

Besides, sooner or later, mom and dad will know and we're surely doomed. I can't let dad take away my skin-care collection! An actor should always have a smooth, clear complexion and an appealing face. I can't risk getting another zit just because of Brandon's mistake.

And just by thinking of this is already giving me one!

I massaged my throbbing temples. I'm already stressed about last night and all Nikki's mouth could talk about was that new gossip on that stupid Tumblr page! Worse: everyone's now talking about it.

And now Violet is laughing too, beside me, reading the latest talk of town in her phone. Except for Javier, who is the only other person who is sane in this school.

We are now sitting idly at our Judges' Seat in the auditorium, waiting for the survivors of Hell Week Day 1 to arrive.

"Will you snap out of it, Vi?" I berated sharply at her when she wheezed from laughing so much.

She flushed and closed her mouth to contain a giggle. I waited for her uncontrollable giggles turn into pants until she calmed down. Maybe my 'are you high or something?' look helped.

"You will not believe this!" She showed me her phone. I immediately squinted my eyes at the sudden brightness.

"Oh." I said as I uninterestingly read the Tumblr page. "That stupid Page again? I mean, who the fuck names their site with three x's? They must either be horny or on crack or somethin'."

She looks rather offended. It's not new to me, she's so petty. I mean, one time she asked who's hotter: Zac Efron or Hugh Jackman, and I answered, 'Me, obviously,' and she made a big deal about it.

"Oh pah-lease, as if you can make better, besides, it's a catchy name!" She rolled her eyes at me. "Anyway, remember that bitch, Jenny? The one who has poor hygiene? Yeah—she actually shitted her pants—!"

"My god, Violet! Will you please bloody stop that?"

This time, it was Javier's deep and shockingly menacing voice boomed the whole auditorium. Javier is usually calm and collective and always the rational thinker—he never shouts, never—so this amused me.

Once he realized what he's done, he cleared his throat and lowered his voice. "You know that's considered as bullying, right?"

Violet tried to giggle, as if it was nothing. "Oh, don't be a kill-joy, Javi," She pinched his chocolate cheeks. He hastily drew his face back, angry. "It's just rumors! C'mon, now. Make-up stories like these are just fake, 'ya know? Chill and enjoy."

I frowned and Javier scowled.

"Those are not just stories, Violet; gossip is the instrument of bullying, and it usually leads to suicide! And those kinds of things are not funny. At all.
