"Today is going to be awesome!"

Ava winked at her reflection in the mirror. She wasn't usually a morning person but this morning was different, this morning she would be working in the bio lab. The lab was one of her favorite places in the world other than the library or museum. It was quite, with only the humming of her laptop to remind her she was actually working and not just messing around.

She took a look at her wet mop of hair. It was getting long ,almost past her shoulders but she needed all the length she could get with her curly mane. After a minute of thought, she decided to pull it into a ponytail so it would not hinder her work. Her hazelnut brown hair protested, having small spirals escape from the sides.

"Work with what you got Ava."

She laughed at herself wondering how crazy she must sound.

It only took a couple of minutes to put on the outfit she left out the night before, black skinny jeans that she had a love hate relationship since they extenuated her wide hips and not so small bumper. This was pared with a teal long sleeve plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up for free moment and unbuttoned  showing the lilac tank top she had under it.

Ava grabbed her her prepacked olive green back pack and made her way out of her apartment. As she reached for the door nob her stomach lurched. She could feel bile edging up the back of her throat. Taking a step back she dropped her bag to floor and tried to run for the sink.

"What the hell?"

Half tripping she made it to the sink and retched, but nothing came out. She hovered over and began to sweat heavily, as if she just went for a long jog. All of the sudden her skin burned like acid and felt as if was trying to melt off her body.

Her feet were locked together on the wood floor and as she watched in horror a cement like cocoon quickly climbed up her legs. Before her body could react it was above her admomen working over her chest squeezing all the oxygen in her lungs up and out. Then in the next second she was in darkness without air or ability to move in any way. Just as she thought she was going to die the unearthly cocoon cracked open and she greedily sucked in as much air as her body would alow.

As Ava's breathing slowed she examined her surroundings. She saw her cocoon and almost got sick at the sight of it. It took all her might not to scream when she removed some of the remnants  from her skin. Doing a quick check she concluded she was alive but not well, her body felt weightless and her mind could barley focus with the massive headache she was having.

"OK I'm not dead so that is good, but I don't know what the hell that was."

Ava bent down slowly her jeans now ripped at the knee. Tenderly she examined the shell she was just wrapped up in.

"This is not from Earth, not even possible. But what-"

Her sentence broke off as the other worldly  matter in her hand was the only thing she could see. She could feel that she was holding it but she couldn't see her hand. Panic drained the last remains of energy she had and she crumpled into a heap on the floor. Now unconious laid out on her kitchen floor sirens sounded loudly  outside. Nothing could wake Ava at that moment and nothing but a rock like carcass and a beat up backpack would be seen on the room. Ava's body was no longer visible so if help did come they would pass right over her.

....

It would take ten minutes for her to wake and fifteen minutes for a swat team to storm up the staircase to her apartment door.

She looked at herself going in and out of view and burned with fear and frustration. A raucous knocking on the door followed by a heavy kick blowing the door off its hinges was enough for her to snap out of her thoughts. Staring at the team of armed men shouting at her to get down she held up her hands shaking.

"I'm sorry, I don't know what's happening!"

A bald man with a shockingly large gun pointed at her heart grimaced at her. "You are coming with us, if you don't cooperate we will shoot."

That's when the fear spiked and an invisible wave pushed the soldiers onto the floor. Ava was lost in thought but her body propelled her forward running around them ,down the stairs and out the door. She kept running until she couldn't stand it anymore.

Leaning on dumpster she coughed trying to regain her breathing. She was visible but for how long? Where to go now? Could they track her? They found her once they will come again.

"What..the heck do I do now?" She whispered to herself in the shadows of the alleyway.

"I can't let that happen again. I'm losing-"

Her hands faded out again.

"My mind".
