Chapter 3

“Dad, its good you’re here. I bought something for you” raised her right hand holding a brown bag with food in it.

“I’ve gotten my first salary and I know you’re tired of eating canned goods.” she excitedly announced to her father.

She has been really happy for she already has a source of income since she has drained everything from her savings. Good thing Ishi lend her some money for the meantime.

Despite what happed to them, Amy still loves her father and gave him the utmost respect that he deserves. Never did she point a finger on her father blaming him for the lost of their wealth. She saw no use of doing that.There’s nothing left of them for him to spend in gambling.  But perhaps, if she had known about it earlier, she’ll do anything to stop him and prevent their nearing bankruptcy.

She noticed that there was something wrong with her dad. Her dad looked bothered but she couldn’t figure it out so she sat beside him and asked

“dad are ok? Is there something wrong? Are you sick? Do you need anything?” she said while tapping her dad’s right shoulder. She sounded very concerned.

“no..no honey..ah…you know well that your mother died after giving birth to you because of Eclampsia and….”

(Eclampsia is an acute and life-threatening complication of pregnancy.  Like preeclampsia, this occurs more commonly in first pregnancies and young mothers where it is thought that novel exposure to paternal antigens is involved. “and?” she impatiently asked, allowing her voice to trail signaling her father to continue her sentence.

“And you’re at high risk and I’m worried that you would inherit the disease. I’m worried that what happened to your mom would happen to you as well” he nervously explained

“I want you to see an Ob Gyne”

 

Amy was bewildered. Yes, her dad has a point but she doesn’t have a plan of getting pregnant yet and how come that would happen when she never had a boyfriend ever since the world begun, for Pete’s sake. Amy thought to herself.

“What’s gotten into you, dad? I mean.. I don’t have a plan of having a baby yet, not that soon. So why worry too much? On my own initiative I’d do that.. In the right time, ok dad? So there’s nothing to worry about” She worded out her bewilderment while wrapping both arms onto his father’s shoulders wanting him to feel that everything is alright.

“Of course there is something to worry about, we’re not just dealing with simple matters here….it’s ..it’s your health that I’m concerned about! And honey, it’s better for us to know the potential risk at this early. Time will come that you’ll have your own family and that you would bear your own child and in fact, there would be no harm in doing so.”
