Chapter 5: Mischievous Meif'wa

The next morning...

Zane opened his eyes and rolled out of bed, knowing he had to wake Melody up for school. He stood up from the floor and drowsily opened the door and went into Melody's room. He went over to her bedside and stroked her cheek gently. It was still cold. It made him shudder. She was breathing, so he knew she was alive.

"Melody, time to wake up, sweetheart." He said softly.

Melody opened her eyes, and shivered, looking sickly.

"Papa, I don't feel too good..." Her voice was hoarse and quiet, and she sneezed.

Zane stood up and grabbed a thermometer and took her temperature. 100.5*F. He sighed. He knew she'd get sick from standing in the rain for too long.

"You're running a fever, Mel. You should stay home from school today. I'll call someone to babysit you, who'd you like?" He asked.

"A-Aph-*sneeze*-mau, p-please." She shivered again.

"Okay, sit tight, try and get some more rest."

"Okay, Papa..." She closed her eyes in an attempt to sleep.

Zane kissed her forehead then stood again and walked out of the room. Hopefully Aphmau was awake. He went to his room and grabbed his smartphone and called her.

"Zane? It's 6:30 in the morning." Aphmau complained, sounded as if she just woke up.

"Hey, sorry to uh, call you so early, but Melody's gotten sick from yesterday and I need someone to watch her today, would you be willing to?"

"S-Sure, Zane, of course, what time to you need me over *yawn* there?"

"In about an hour or so, thanks, Aph."

"No *yawn* Problem, Zane. I'll be there. Bye!"

"Goodbye, Aphmau."

Zane hung up and went to get dressed into his uniform. After he got dressed, he combed his hair and prepared a warm breakfast for Melody, and some cereal for himself. He made her some toaster waffles and eggs with hot cocoa with mini marshmallows. He knocked on her door, in case she had gotten up to get dressed.

"Come in." Her hoarse voice replied.

Zane gently opened the door with her steaming food in hand. He walked over and set it on her nightstand.

"I made you some breakfast for when you get hungry."

"T-thanks, Papa."

"You're welcome. Aph should be here soon to watch you, okay?"

"Okay. Have a good *cough* time at work, okay?" Melody gave him a weak smile. He smiled softly back.

"I will, thank you. I love you, and I'll be back around three thirty."

He kissed her forehead then waited for Aphmau in the entryway. She knocked on the door, wearing her sweater and some dark jeans instead of her usual booty shorts. Her hair was brushed and she had a piece of toast in her mouth with a cup of coffee in her hand. She was smiling. Aphmau took her toast out of her mouth to speak.

"I'm here! Hopefully one time?"

"Yup. I'm off to work. Thanks again."

"Of course, you know I love Melody like my own!"

"Heh, right. Well, I'll be back around 3:30, she's in her room right now, I haven't given her any medicine yet and she has some food waiting on her table for her."
