City Of Torture

Prologue

Prologue:

Jamie hid behind another corner, praying that the thing would just go away. But deep inside her heart, she knew that the way it had been programmed, it would either killed her, or be killed.

Taking her seraph blade, Ithuriel, out she peeked around the corner and stabbed the demon. The edges of her vision became foggy and she blinked as the real scene became more focused.

"Two minutes and fifteen seconds Jamie."

Jamie cursed under her breath

"If you had just confronted the damn thing instead of hiding, you would have gotten under thirty seconds. Instead, you tacked on two whole minutes."

As he said this, he slapped her, the stinging subsiding after a few seconds.

"If you don't get under thirty seconds this, you know what will happen. And I'm sure you don't want that, do you Jamie?"

She shook her head no, averting her eyes anywhere but her father's face.

"Go."

She again saw her vision fog and clear as she saw another demon. She felt her heart sink as it was a Greater Demon, Agramon. Holding her seraph blade in front of her and looking away, she threw a pebble like it was a live grenade.

The creature, confused peered towards it, only to turn around to see Jamie's sword go into where it's heart should have been.

"Twenty nine seconds. Next time, I'll expect fifteen."

She timidly nodded.

"Jamie, look at me."

No.

She felt a sharp pain against her cheek. It was the blade of his sword. He was pressing the edge of it against her skin, trying to force her to turn her head toward him. The sword bit farther into her cheek.

"Look at me Jamie."

She looked. She didn't want to, but the pain was too much - her head jerked to the side almost against her will, the blood dripping in great fat drops down her face, splattering the marble floors of the manor. A nauseous pain gripped her as she raised her head to look into the dark eyes of her father, Valentine Morgenstern.
