My alarm jolted me from my sleep  and while walking away from my desk, I passed my dresser and slightly pushed down the snooze button. Today the LAN scientists would arrive and take me to be born again. To say I was excited was an understatement and being awake for nearly twenty-four hours had taken its toll, since my body buzzed with energy that made my fingers tingle. My body shook as I skimmed the closet and dresser drawers for my light jeans, black t-shirt, and red converse. I brushed my mid back brown hair down and grabbed my watch on the way to the kitchen.

Walking through the open doorway I stopped walking and putting on my watch when I saw my family occupying the kitchen. My little baby brother asleep on my moms shoulder and my father muttering whilst cooking bacon to cope with whatever was stressing him out.

My mom saw me and a chuckle left her lips. "You look like a deer in headlights Madylnn." she began to laugh a little harder, causing my brother to stir slightly on her left shoulder. My dad turned his head at the mention of my name and dropped the silver tongs into the hot frying pan as he ran to hug me, almost causing us to topple over.

I buried my head into his torso as he buried his cheek into my hair. "Oh Maddy." He cooed.

I looked down when I felt a light pressure on my legs to see my little brother Sam still in his Spider-Man onesie hugging our legs and smiling up at us with sleepy eyes and still missing his front tooth. I laughed and he buried his chestnut hair into my leg.

My mother got up, strode over to our group and all but pried my father away from me, so she could hug me instead. When she did successfully get him away from me she grabbed my head and shoved it to her chest causing me to wobble. My father pouted and stuck his tounge out at the back of my mom's head and ran back to the stove with wide eyes when he remembered that he had been cooking.

My mother pulled me away from her chest to study me at arms length and sighed. "Come. Let's go over the procedure one more time before they arrive." she pointed to a chair but stopped and picked Sam off of my leg. I sat down on the small wooden stool under the island counter as a plate of blueberry pancake's dripping with syrup and slightly burnt bacon on the side was set in front of me. I began to eat as I half-heartedly listened to the Landious procedure.

"Now, since you were born on 2:57 am the LAN scientists will pick you up at 3:57 am as normal. They will tell you to take a seat after they guide you to the back. Then you will be in the van for at least seven hours as they gather the others. Remember, if you complain more than three times," she held up three fingers in front of my face, "they will stop the van, throw you out, and lose the only chance you will ever have to become enhanced. When you arrive to the LAN Industrial building you will exit the van and be escorted to the Fifty-Seventh floor.

"There, you will be ID'd and be told to take a seat. After-" she stopped mid- sentence to scold sam and clean the pancake and bacon mess that Sam had suddenly made. I rolled my eyes at him as he stuck his tongue out at me.

The door bell rang and we all stopped what we were doing to look at the door, then at the analog clock. 3:57 AM, it read.

It was time.

The doorbell rang again, and my father fast walked through the open doorway, past the couch, and opened the door. He turned his head slightly and motioned for me to come. My heart skipped a beat as I looked at my mother, who was wrestling with keeping Sam in her arms. She put him down and looked up at me, tears puddling her eyes. She took a deep breath and smiled at me. Bending down, she touched Sam's small back and pointed to me as she whispered into his ear. Sam's eyes widened slightly and ran into my legs for the second time today.

"Be safe Madd. Come home fast so I can have some cake," he whispered with a cute smile across his face.

I laughed and ruffled his hair, promising that I would come back. I turned around and embraced my mother and when we pulled apart, she looked at me and nodded. I took a shakey breath as I walked towards the front door. I looked up at my father underneath the door frame and smiled. He didn't smile back. I looked at the LAN scientist in front of me and signaled that I was ready to go.

He motioned to the sleek white van with a clear back, that was occupied with seven other people already. I took a deep breath and climbed into the van with the sound of its doors locking behind me.
