We sat on the floor. No words were said. Tears dripped on the floor and our eyes blurred. We had just gotten back in after burying the body. I couldn't help but to feel like this was all my fault...
"What is that?" Jordan asked.
We all fell completely silent. We all heard loud thumping from outside the cabin. It sounds like somebody was running.
"Walker?" Elise wondered.
"No, it's moving too quick." I said.
I stood up, gun in hand. I held it high as I turned the knob. Then the door flew open and knocked me over, making me fall heavily on the wooden floor. Jordan got up and raised her gun. A dark, hooded figure rushed in and knocked Jordan off her feet and held a gun in her face. But he didn't notice me get up and hold a knife to his head.
"I dare you to hurt one of them." I warn the figure.
Without a struggle, I pulled the hood off of the figure and it revealed the face of a 13 year old boy. Same as me. He looked strangely familiar...
"Why are you here?" I demand.
"I'm just looking for my brother." He said.
"What's his name?" I ask.
"Ben."
Part of my mind said I knew it. The other said it was a coincidence.
"What is your last name?" I ask, hoping it wasn't Leeder... Same as Ben.
"Leeder." He replied.
Elise's mouth was open slightly. Jordan looked at him like he was lying.
"We knew him." I said.
"Knew?" He asked, noticing the past tense.
"Just yesterday, he was attacked by two walkers. We didn't get to him in time." I said.
"Where is the body? Did he turn?" He demanded.
"No, he didn't turn. We buried him." I stated.
"So... Your telling me that my twin brother was with you all this time... And he died just before I got here?" He began shouting.
He fell in the corner of the room, trying his best to contain the tears that filled his eyes.
"I'm sorry." Elise said, laying a hand on his shoulder.
I can really see the similarities between this boy and Ben. But I did not recall Ben having a twin brother... Or any brother.
"Where have you been all this time? I mean... We've never met." I said.
"Our mother had no choice but to put me up for adoption." He informed us.
"And what's your name?" Jordan asked him, still not believing any part of it.
He paused for a moment and answered, "Leo."
I nodded. Elise looked as if trying to avoid looking at him. Jordan just rolled her eyes with disbelief.
"We should get out of here." Leo said.
"Why?" I ask, frowning.
"I was just barely able to outrun a herd of walkers. I'm sure they are coming this way." Leo stated.
"But this place is so safe! What about the weapons and food?" Jordan argued.
"We'll pack as much as we can and get out of here." I said.
We all grabbed a backpack and stored food and water and ammo. Leo took the katana sword as his own personal weapon. Once we were finished, we ran out the door. A few walkers stood in my way. With the slash of my machete and the stabs of Leo's katana, the walkers were easily killed. We ran towards the nearest road and followed it passed a blockage on the road and continued. Jordan pointed out a dirt trail through a forest and we followed it up a hill. Two men came out of the bush, aiming machine guns in our faces.
"What are you doing here?" One of them demanded.
"We were being chased by walkers and noticed the trail," Said Jordan.
"Come with us. We'll help you," The other said.
We followed him further up the trail to a small group. So far I only saw men. Ranging from ages fourteen to forty. Where were the girls?
"So far we only had one woman who was tough enough to join our group. You four will need some training before you join our group," One of the men said.
"What must we do?" Elise asked.
"Collect a few walker heads. Then we'll talk." He stated.
One of the men brought us to a tent that we would all sleep in, if we were strong enough to join. I turned to Elise, but my eyes looked further... All the way to a woman. The woman who was tough enough to join. She had black hair that looked as if it was cut by a weed-whacker and wore a black leather jacket with black jeans. I hadnt seen her face until she turned around... My mother! But she didn't look like herself. She had light brown hair and always wore a polka-dotted dress. When our eyes met, she rushed to me and pulled me in for a big hug... But I resisted.
"What? What's wrong, Logan?" She asked.
"What happened to you? What happened to Dad?" I said.
"I found the person I was meant to become." Mom stated.
"And Dad?"
"He... Is gone." She said.
I did not cry, for he was a jerk. He regretted having me as a child since the very day I was born.
"Well, if you want to stay, you can," Mom said.
"I think we'll leave tomorrow." I stated.
She looked sad. But I didn't care. Despite the fact that she was my mother, I did not like what she became. And that changed my opinion about her. I also hated everything about this group. Nothing looked safe accept for the weapons. But the men looked like they had no experience with guns. Like this boy with dark hair named Randall had a pistol, and the weight of the gun was too much for him. Night fell, and we all slept silently until morning.
