Okay but imagine after Alec dies Catarina trying to get Magnus into dating again after awhile or so and Magnus just ends up mindlessly hooking up and using people because hes become reckless since Alec has died and finally one day he snaps at Catarina because "How can you expect me to move on?! Find someone else?!" At Catarina calmy pulls a letter out and hands it to Magnus, and its from Alec when he was dying. And it have five words. "Don't let him be alone" And Magnus just breaks down there, no the violent sobbing kind but the "I can't even move kind".
