EPILOGUE

A few days passed, and they were ordered to stay put in the wall.  Erwin Smith was ordered to meet with the head officer of the three branches to hand over Eren Yeager after a week, to give an order for his execution. As this was going on, Levi simply strolled around, just to relieve his own stress. He was slightly limping, not making it obvious that he had a sprain. As he remembered what Petra’s father told him, his mind was occupied once again. He looked at the river dividing a part of the city.

He suddenly remembered the letter Petra’s father gave him. He slightly tore it, so the paper inside won’t be destroyed. As he saw the paper, there were marks of dried up water. Was she crying while writing this? He thought to himself. He did not want to think about it, and read the letter instead.

Dear Levi…

I just wanted to tell you that I’ve looked up to you ever since…

I wanted to tell you, how much I admire you too… as a captain… and a human.

You may look so emotionless at times, but you still had this soft spot inside you.

I know it’s absurd for me to tell you this but…

I’ve fallen for you.

I mean… I love you…

Even before the day you kissed me… I’ve already fallen in love with you, but I felt confused.

Ever since the day you saved me from that titan who planned to devour me whole, I saw a part of you, you don’t usually show to anyone.

That day when you held the blood-filled hand of a soldier who was dying, you were there in his last moments, comforting him, making him die in peace…

I also remembered the days we spent our times together. Even if it was only in a friendly approach, I was glad that we were together on those days.

I actually remembered you telling me that you’d help me fulfill the dream that made me cry. I don’t know what you’ll think of but… I had a dream, where we got married. I won’t tell you about the details, but we got married in my dream. I wish it could happen, but it’s a pretty childish dream.

The last time I told you, that I liked you; you suddenly told me that you loved me. I tried to accept it, but I really don’t know why I can’t do it.

If you receive this letter… please… please forgive me for not saying goodbye to you properly…

I’m sorry for leaving you that night, without any more words said.

I’m sorry if I’ve offended you that night.

This letter… I’ve written this so many times now, and I am sure, this final letter I wrote before the expedition, will be filled with my most sincere apologies.

For now, I can’t accept your feelings towards me… but… after the expedition; I want to talk to you. Surely, you must’ve met my father already right? Of course, he’s the one who addressed this letter to you right?

Right now… while you’re reading this letter… I want you to meet me, in that restaurant you brought me in.  I’ll be waiting there, and I’ll accept anything you’ll tell me. I’m ready to accept it.
