My life is built upon the foundation of two dreams.

One is to become financially stable enough to single-handedly take care of my mother and I.

The other is to become a writer. Maybe not now, maybe not soon, but one day is fine for me.

As you can probably already tell, one must come to fruition before the other.

Boring right?

Well, boring would bring me happiness.

I've learnt that this life does not give you lemons, just many problems and very little possible solutions.

While I wish I could live the picturesque life of the quiet protagonist that happens to get the grades, the riches, and the man... that does not happen in this world. Certainly not in mine.

My family - or what is left of it - has never been well off. I work two part time jobs, my mom is a full time nurse, and the man that gave me half his genetic code is absent from the list of people in my life.

But, what can you do? You work hard, hoping it pays off.

And that is exactly what has happened.

As of yesterday, after many long months of applications and constant untamed stress eating, I was finally accepted to intern at the largest, most affluent company in the region:

SS Enterprises.

Yes, I may not be getting paid, and yes, the people there will probably treat me like shit. But these are details that do not matter to me. They can't.

This was the best opportunity I could ask for, my only chance to hopefully guarantee acceptances to the universities I've been working hard to get into. Getting the highest ranking average just wasn't enough nowadays. I had to be the full package. My life practically depended on getting this internship.

I was finally one step closer to achieving my dream.

The piercing sound of bells jolts me out of my thoughts. The torture seemed infinite.

Packing my stuff as fast as I could, I rushed out of the classroom hoping to catch the bus. The alternative, a long walk home, did not make me very happy.

I dragged myself down the school hallways, ramming through the waves of mundane teenagers. I couldn't care less whether they knew I was there, either they got out of the way or I made them.

I'm not a mean person, at least not instinctively. The journey to the end of the hallway was a daily struggle because all the air-headed sheep around me were too entranced by the closest person I have to a foe, Collin Dick.

Whoops... I meant Collin Smith. An innocent slip of the tongue.

I guess you could say that we didn't quite get along. Once upon a time, in a land that I will never return to, Collin and I were best friends.

I looked up to him, following him around wherever he went like a puppy in new surroundings. We were more than just best friends... he was a brother to me.

All things in this life become more shitty as time passes.

Quickly trying to get to the exit, I accidentally bump into Heather Miles.

Heather Miles happens to be what most would call... a fake bitch. I could smell her perfume a mile away and so I was very surprised that I hadn't noticed her before we collided.
