Sarah's P.O.V.
“Oh my God, what are you doing here Jack?” I stammered, feeling my heart beating faster as the boy barged through the door.
“I’m here to get my girlfriend back.” He came straight for me, grabbing me and kissing me on the lips. I tasted alcohol and tobacco on his breath. I felt sick. I tried to push him away, but his grip was too tight. Suddenly, he was pulled from me by Vaila, Holly, and Rachel.
“Jack! Get off me! I’ve told you, it’s over!” I hissed. He tried to put his arms around me, but my friends, luckily, were holding him back tight.
“Come on, give me one more chance.” He slurred.
“You’re drunk. And no, it’s over.” I told him firmly. “Now, get out.” I pointed a shaking finger towards the door.
“It was only over because of you fools.” He turned to face my friends, scowling. “You idiots... you told her I was no good for her. You told her that lie, and she broke up with me. You should be ashamed of yourselves.” “Shut up, Jack.” I said, my voice wobbling. “I decided to break up with you on my own account – don’t go blaming my friends.”
“I’ve changed, honestly. I’ve changed.” Jack told me.
“Jack, we’re only 16, yet you’re going out smoking and drinking? What, have you got a fake ID or something?”
“No,” Jack said, but I could tell he was lying.
“Hang on a second... where’s Jen?” Vaila said, and she and Rachel ran downstairs. Holly stayed here with me, in case things got ugly.
“Oh my God!” I heard Rachel shout. “She’s bleeding!”
I glared at Jack. “What have you done to my friend? Holly, call an ambulance. And the police.”
Holly nervously pulled out her phone and typed in 999, her fingers shaking. “Jack, I’ve had enough.” I said while Holly spoke quietly on the phone. “I broke up with you because you were a lying, cheating scumbag. You were rude and horrible, and you tried to make my friends hate me. You were so jealous of the time I spent with them. I was stupid – I stayed with you. I thought you were different. Yeah, maybe my friends helped me realise who you truly were. But you know what Jack? That doesn’t give you an excuse to come here, drunk and stinking of smoke, and hurt my friends. Now, leave, and never come back. Or wait for the police to take you.”
Tears were in my eyes by the time I’d finished. I waited, worried at what he would do next. He glared at me with his brown eyes, his dark hair in a mess. My heart thudded so hard, I was surprised he couldn’t hear it. I was expecting a slap, a punch – anything. He was an angry mess, and I hated him with every ounce of my body. But he didn’t hurt me. I knew way deep down, that he wouldn’t hurt me. He’d hurt my friends, he’d say horrible, offensive things, but he’d never lay a finger on me. Instead, he just turned, and walked down the stairs.
I followed him down, Holly behind. At the bottom of the stairs, I was met by a horrible sight.
What a great time for Sarah’s parents to be out, eh?
Jen was lying on the floor, eyes closed, blood trailing from her bruised nose. Her cheek was a purple-brown colour. Jack stood for a mere second, watching Vaila and Rachel as they hugged her and told her it would be okay, before awkwardly dodging around and heading for the door. However, Holly jumped across and stood in front of the door, blocking him.
“No way, Jack. You’ve hurt our friend and you’re not leaving until the police get here.” She said bravely.
Jack lifted a hand as if to slap her, but lowered it slowly when he saw the scared look in her eyes.
“I’m sorry...” He began. “No you’re not.” I stated. “You’re a liar.”
There was a knock at the door. In came two policemen and a paramedic.
“What’s going on here? What’s happened?” asked the paramedic. I looked behind her, and there was an ambulance parked on the pavement.
Everything was a blur from then. The policemen grabbed Jack and took him away in the police car. The paramedic checked Jen’s breathing and wiped the blood away, and after a few minutes, Jen was awake.
“Wh-what happened?” Jen whispered, looking up at the paramedic with scared eyes.
“It’s okay Jen. The boy who hurt you has been taken away by the police. He just punched you, nothing else. Don’t worry, you’re fine.” The paramedic stroked Jen’s hair comfortingly, and then stood up. “We won’t need to take you to the hospital. You’re fine. I’m afraid you’ll have a bruise on your face for a few days though.” “But tomorrow I’m going out with Liam!” Jen gasped, sitting up. “I can’t meet him with a bruise on my cheek!”
“I’m afraid you’ll have to. You could always try covering it up with make-up.” The paramedic said, before checking her watch. “I’d better go, if you have any problems, just give us a call, Jen.”
“Thank you for your help,” I said, and she was gone. We instantly went into a massive group hug; me, Rachel, Vaila and Holly wrapping our arms around Jen.
“Are you okay?” I whispered in Jen’s ear.
“I’m fine.” She nodded.
“Good.” I said quietly. “And listen Jen, Liam won’t care about the bruise on your face. You’re beautiful, just the way you are, and if he’s half decent, he’ll see that... Trust me, he’ll see that...”
