Chapter 1-Chasing Money

KRIZEL'S POV

I grabbed my blanket as I hid my face under the most comfortable and flabby blanket. I opened my phone to check if there were messages but there were nothing but only the monotonous background. They would always consider me a weenie much more a fool. But through the years of struggle I had some people to hold onto. I had my friends; they were there with me during the most embarrassing and worst times.

"I need to finish this stupid homework!" I said blearily.

I noticed the time was passing quickly and by that time I called Nazeeha to inform her about the most peculiar event, the prom. It wasn't actually the greatest but is considered the most memorable and delightful event of the year for a schoolgirl like me.

I grabbed my phone and dialed Nazeeha's number. But an unfamiliar voice answered instead of Nazeeha. It was a guy with a deep husky voice. He was indeed unfamiliar.

"Umm... Hello?" I asked with a shallow voice.

"Who is this?" He asked curiously.

"I'm Krizel, Nazeeha's friend and you?" I asked him inquisitively.

"Oh! By the way, I am Riker, Nazeeha's neighbor. I just dropped by their house to bring her things that she left in our house." He explained

"Oh! I see, I hope you don't mind passing the phone to Nazeeha?" I replied.

"No not at all. Just hang on then I'll just call her." He replied back.

"Okay!" I answered.

I was then curious. I didn't know what was more disturbing, the fact that a guy answered the phone or the fact that Nazeeha went to this unprecedented guy's house. Since her father broke her mother's heart, from that time on she really hated guys. She couldn't even get near them. Nazeeha thought that all of them are all the same. It was very discomforting.

"Hello? Krizel!" Nazeeha shouted clamorously.

"Whew! Now, you need to explain!" I responded.

"Oh Riker! The guy next door. He is a friend of mine, problem?" She reacted.

"Friend huh? Then why did he say that you went to their house? What did you do there?" I asked curiously.

"I just tutored him that's all. Don't you know that he is studying in our school? He is not doing well in his studies so his mother decided for him to get a tutor." Nazeeha explained certainly.

"Oh! That's more logical and more convincing. But wait, why didn't you tell us about this?" I interrogated.

"Well, I guess you all wouldn't care if I tutor someone, right?" She answered nervously.

I felt her nerves crashing into mine when I heard her shiver while explaining what was happening. I began to worry. Maybe something was going on. So I asked her ton of questions until she answered it more reasonable and persuasive.

"We ran out of money. My mother lose her job after spilling coffee to her customer and breaking some dishes. We couldn't afford to pay our her bills. And my father is nowhere to be found." Nazeeha elucidated

I felt bothered on what happened. I couldn't just stay here not doing anything, so I called my friends. I called her mother but all her mother said was that she stayed up all night finding some jobs to help them. Me, Julianne, Habiba and Bea tried on some ideas but neither of them worked. Until we planned a conducive plan to help the family with their financial problems. It was worth a go.

 NAZEEHA'S POV

I tightly squeezed my face onto my knees while hugging them. I can feel pain and a strong desire for money. We really need money and the only way to get money is if you work to earn it.

I grabbed my computer and started browsing for some jobs that I can apply into. I am just a high-school student and I just can apply on some voluntary jobs like serving and cleaning. But I stink at serving, once I tried to apply for a job on a restaurant I got fired after a day for serving customers soapy soup instead of a delicious and pleasurable soup. I got a really bad history on those. I need to find a job that can agree with my class schedules. I still need to study; it is one major key to success. I don't want to end by the bin finding some food to eat.

There was this job called babysitting where I babysit some babies. That's quite obvious from the name babysitting right? I called the parents and they sounded kind so I set up a meeting session with them where I get to meet the baby I am going to babysit.

"Hello! Are you Nazeeha Denver?" The lady walking towards me asked who I believed is the mother of the child I was going to babysit.

"Yes I am Nazeeha. So where is the baby?" I questioned her.

"My son is at home. I will be taking you there once we finish talking." She clarified.

"Okay then." I responded.

"I am Therese Wild." She said before shooting some questions.

We did have a firm conversation and by the look of her face I can tell that she likes me, I guess I can pass for a nanny. I do have a brother and I can deal with him. Not a baby brother that I can cuddle with, I have an over-size big brother that always mocks me and embarrasses me in front of everyone. What a life!

"You passed! Let us head to our house to meet my son!" Mrs. Wild said cheerfully.

"Whoa! Thank you Mrs. Wild!" I remarked while she suddenly grabbed me for a hug. I was so happy and I felt pleased and satisfied.

We then headed to their house. Their house was enormous and aesthetical. It was a mansion. I imagined myself getting lost in there somewhere. I think it could take time after I can memorize the ways in this big house. As we head in I saw a fountain covered in a candescent color of gold, it was beautiful. I saw some maids dressed in white ruffled, knee size dresses. Until I realized that I was working for a high-class family.

"Here's the maid's room" Mrs. Wild clearly instructed.

"I thought I'd just be staying here when you're gone?" I asked curiously.

"I forgot to inform you about that but you need to stay here." She informed me.

"I understand." I replied.

I never thought I was going to stay here for long. I was just looking for some voluntary jobs. I never meant to go this far like leaving my family and friends. Now the hardest thing is breaking this to them.

I snatched my phone and dialed my mother hesitantly. I doubted myself. Thinking maybe I couldn't do it. So I just asked Mrs. Wild if I can have a week to prepare before I start working. I don't know on what I should do. If I work here I need to leave school. It's for my family! I'm completely determined on doing this.
