Cody’s POV
I don’t even know why they want to ask me questions. I mean, I hit her with my car and took her home with me thinking she had a normal life and everything was okay with her. I wouldn’t ever think that I saved her life. She saved her own life by running away from her dad. I mean, I guess I did save her life in a way. If I didn’t pick her up off the road, another car wouldn’t have seen her and then…she would be…dead. But then again, she might have been just fine if I didn’t hit her with my car. She wouldn’t have gone back to her dads if it weren’t for me. I guess it’s my fault she has a black eye. It’s my fault that she almost got a broken nose, because she went back to her dad’s. Well, its kind of Matt’s fault for telling her that I couldn’t hang with her. But then again, it’s my fault for hitting her with my car in the first place.
“Cody, are you okay?” Maggie asked, destroying my thoughts.
We were inside of the police station now in a small room. Maggie was sitting be side me while the police officer was sitting in front of me across a desk.
I nodded my head.
“Let me introduce myself. I’m officer John Swanson. You’re Cody Simpson, right?” John asked, pointing to me.
“Yes sir.” I said.
“And you’re Maggie, right?” John asked Maggie.
John looked to be in his thirties. He had dark brown hair, and big brown eyes.
Maggie quickly nodded her head.
“My first few questions will be to Maggie.” John said.
“Did your father start abusing you right after your mom passed away, or was it a few months later?” John asked Maggie.
Maggie’s POV
“It was about two months later. I remember him coming home on a Tuesday night drunk. He was supposed to be working late that night, but I guess he skipped it. We still lived in Canada at the time. It was late February when it all started. I had just turned 12 on the 4th, while my sister turned 7 on the 11th, and my brother turned 17 on the 17th. My sister moved in with my aunt in January, but my brother and I decided to stay with my dad.” I said, starting to flashback to that very night.
*Flashback *
“Oh! Ouch, that has got to hurt!” My brother, Ryan, said as we watched America’s Funniest Home Videos.
“Oh my gosh!” I said, covering my mouth with my hand.
Ryan and I both laughed as someone went right through a trampoline.
The phone suddenly started ringing.
Ryan got up off the couch and answered it.
“Hello?” He said into the phone.
“Yeah, sure.” He said, walking over to me and handing me the phone.
I pressed the phone to my ear.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Maggie.” A boy’s voice said.
“Oh! Hey, Alex!” I said.
I felt my face heat up.
Alex was the boy I liked. He was also my best friend.
“What are you up to?” He asked.
“Just watching TV with my brother, what about you?” I asked.
“I just got home from the grocery store with my mom. Guess what she told me.” He said.
