I rushed down the stairs of my mother's new house, opening the front door praying she wouldn't catch me. The second my finger tips grazed the door knob my mother's voice called out to me, "Ava are you really going to school like that?"

I looked down at my brand new skinny jeans, crop top, and leather heals. Yes I am , I though but instead I turned to her. "Why shouldn't I mother?"

She crossed her arms and looked at me, "Because your showing a little too much skin don't you think?" Amy Daf use to go out to parties and was known to have a little bit too much fun every now and then. But lately you could barely see her out in anything but pearls and pencil skirts.

"No mother I don't, I think I look just fine. And not that long ago you would have worn the same thing." I snapped at her, and opened the front door without giving her a chance to respond, slamming the door behind me.

My mother use to tell me to stand up for myself, to be unique, but ever since she got started dating a lawyer instead of bonfires and movies, she was going to work parties and wearing pearls. Then out of no where she comes to my room announcing that he proposed and we were moving to the city. Not exactly my choice, but she refused to listen to me.

So I packed up my room and said goodbye to my friends, mom swore up and down that I would make friends before the school year started. But instead of going out and making some, I spent my summer in our huge pent house remaking myself.

Gone was the perfect little girl I use to be and out came the girl I've always dreamt of being, the one that finally gets to spread her wings. The one that can finally make a difference.

"Ava! Get back here!" No mom you come back to me. I sighed as I climbed into my black 2000 F150 truck. And backed out the driveway, it was a five minute drive to my new school. I located a parking spot in the back of the parking lot next to a white pickup.

I turned off the engine but didn't get out. I needed a moment to collect my thoughts, a moment to regain my confidence before I enter this new, preppy school. Way different from my old grungy school.
