Please Excuse Any Mistakes
This is now the longest chapter I've ever written : ) (6242 words)

"So, I thought Carter was coming over?" Evan asked as he came up next to me at the sink.

I sighed and shrugged, "He was supposed to... But, I haven't heard from him." I said.

Evan jumped onto the counter next to me. I looked over at him and furrowed my eyebrows, "Where's your plate?" I asked him.

He paused, "It's on the table. I'll be right back" he said before hopping off the counter and went into the dining room.

On the other side of me, I grabbed the handle of the dishwasher and pulled it open. I grabbed the plates I was previously cleaning and gently placed them in their designated rack.

Evan came back into the kitchen and I heard him wash his plate before he came over to me and put it into the dishwasher along with the others.

I pushed a few buttons to clean the dishes and close the door. I quickly washed my hands before I turned back to Evan and raised my eyebrows. Instead of him standing around the kitchen, he decided it'd be a good idea to jump up onto another counter.

He looked over at me, "Anyways," he started, "Do you know when mom and dad will be home?" He asked, looking towards the door.

I looked over to the door. I had no idea when they'd be home. Their jobs constantly keep them at work late...

I crossed my arms over my chest and looked back over to Evan. He was still watching the door, "Ya I... I don't know when they'll be home." I said quietly. His shoulders slumped and he furrowed his eyebrows together.

He looked back to me and folded his hands together in his lap, "Have you tried texting Carter?" He asked hopefully.

I nodded, "And called him. He's not answering." I said.

A few moments passed before I grew impatient once again. It's really not like Carter to be late and not even send a text about why.

I reached for my pocket and pulled my phone out. I clicked on his contact and called him, putting the phone up to my ear.

It rang and rang and rang before it went to voicemail, "Hi," Carter's recorded voice started, "Sorry I couldn't answer your call," the very short pause took place before my voice was put through, "Please leave a message after the beep and Carter will get back to you as soon as he can." The message finished and the little beep came.

"Hey Carter," I started, "Uh, you were supposed to come over and well... You aren't here and it's way past after school, as in we just finished dinner. So, at least text me. Bye" I said before hanging up and slipping my phone back into my pocket.

Evan hopped off the counter without a word and went to the living room. I followed behind him and plopped down on the couch next to him.

In silence, Evan turned on the tv.

Xx

An hour or two later, I heard the door fling open and I whipped my head to the side. In the doorway, Carter was standing there.

I stood up, "So, what happened to, 'see you after school'?" I asked him as I crossed my arms.

He sighed, "Sorry, I lost track of time... I had to bring Gabbie her jacket and we ended up talking and I didn't know what time it was." He said quietly before shutting the door.

I uncrossed my arms and went towards him. I wrapped my arms around him, my protective best friend side coming in, "Okay, just- just at least answer you phone next time..." I said into his chest.
