Chapter Six

The rest of his weekend was slow and usual. He was grateful to have food again, and took his time eating. He spent Saturday indoors, mainly reading and listening to music. He had a wide variety of songs on his phone, not all of them in English.
He didn't really care if he couldn't understand the words, but the sound of the music was more important to him. He didn't tap his fingers or nod his head with the beat of what he was listening to, but occasionally his hand or eyes, which were usually closed, twitched against his will. He was used to it, though, and accepted the fact that he was just as weird as the bullies told him he was.
He woke up early on Sunday morning and took his time getting ready for the day. Sunday's were his favourite days because everyone was at church and businesses were closed down; meaning less people were out and about.
He put on his jacket and headed out onto the streets. He lived far enough from the school so that he could get there by car, but he wouldn't see anyone he knew if he walked around.
As usual, the park was empty when he entered. The stream running around it was calm, and the wind waved through the grass and trees.
He made his way to the middle of the park where there was a beautiful fountain and sat down. No one really knew what the statue in the fountain was supposed to be. It was a shining white-silver, and was made up of a mass of curves, rings, and straight edges.
The beauty of the fountain was that it could be whatever you could think of, and everyone saw it differently. To Aleks, it was a reminder of the screams that he heard that night, and the way time had stopped for him. It made him remember that time...the last time he was ever whole. Now, he was broken, a fragment of his former self.
He shook his head to clear the thoughts. He didn't need to dwell on it; he could never change the past and would forever be the same.
By the time he left it was already sunset, and he stumbled in the near-darkness. He didn't take any medication before he went to bed an hour later. He never needed to take anything on Sunday nights.

He was 15 minutes late to calculus on Monday morning. A few boys with matching reptilian wristbands bumped into him, and decided to have some fun. Aleks' ribs were definitely bruised, but hopefully not broken, and his arms and legs felt like pieces of lead. Luckily, they were covered and the bullies didn't aim for his face.
He managed not to wince as he dragged himself into the classroom. His teacher gave him detention, but he could tell she didn't want to. The rest of the class was uneventful, and Aleks finished his homework before the bell.
When he went into the biology class room, a sub was in the room saying their teacher would be a few minutes late. Aleks lay his head on the desk and rested.
A few minutes later, which he appeared to have had slept through, the door opened and two pairs of footsteps walked in. The sub left to go back to his own classroom, and the teacher Mr.Keith started talking.
"Class, be quiet. Though it's kind of late...We will have a new student joining us. Please make him feel welcome."
He turned,
"Why don't you introduce yourself?"
Aleks lifted his head off the desk, wanting to be respectful even though the new kid would either be a bully or get bullied. He sighed, this kid probably would be ganging up on him with the re–
He froze.

"Nice to meet you. My name's Kevin."

It was him.
