Dean and I had been on the road for hours now. He refuses to stop at any motel because he just wants to get to the bunker. He is also driving dangerously fast, but I couldn't say anything about it.
I was curled up on the seat, my back facing Dean, and my eyes watching the trees pass by. The sun was just coming up and I watched as night turn into day.
Dean was on the phone with Sam– who was surprised to wake up and find us gone. Dean had explained to him that it wasn't safe for me to be there anymore and that he had to get me out of there immediately. Sam protested that Dean could've woken him up to leave too, but Dean argued that there was no time. I just listened to the conversation as I stared out of the window, thinking about how that note got into the room.
Dean had his phone on speaker.
"Can you at least tell me what the hell made you race out of the hotel so damn early in the morning?" Sam's voice asked. I heard shuffling in the background. He must be leaving too.
Dean didn't answer right away. I could feel him turn his head to me, but I remained staring out the window.
"The fucking asshole somehow got into the room," Dean finally answered, turning his head back to the road.
"Joe?" Sam asked, confusion in his voice.
"No, the big fucking asshole."
"Oh, Edward." It brought a small smile on my face that Sam knew exactly whom Dean was talking about.
"How'd he get in?" Sam continued. I heard car doors shut and the start of Max's engine.
"I have no fucking idea. But get this. Catherine had a nightmare about him before we found the note he left. This is some Freddie Krueger type of shit."
"Is she okay?" was all that Sam said.
I turned my head towards Dean when he didn't answer, and sure enough, he was looking right at me.
I sat up and answered for myself. "Yeah, Sam, I'm okay." My voice seemed so flat and monotone.
"Hey, Catherine." His voice was full of that sympathy that he always had.
"Hey," I answered.
When he didn't say anything, I asked, "Is Jess with you?"
"Yeah, Catherine. I'm right here," I heard Jess say. They must have us on speaker too.
"What about Cas?" I asked, hoping that everyone was okay and Edward didn't get to them.
"Right here," I heard his voice. It sounded flat, and it made me a little uncomfortable. I hope he doesn't bring up that night.
"What motel are you guys stopping at? We'll meet you there." Sam said after no one said anything.
"We're not stopping." Dean said a little too aggressively.
"What? Why?" Jess interjected.
"Because it's not safe for her until we get to the damn bunker."
"Dean, that's a two day drive. Are you insane?" Sam argued. Yes, Sam. He is. But he also has a point.
"No. I have a feeling he can get to her through her dreams, Sam. If we get to the bunker, he won't be able to get through the warded walls."
"How the hell can he get to her through her dreams? He's a demon." Sam asked.
"Maybe he has a witch," I heard Jess say. Oh god. Edward would be the one to kidnap a witch. He always gets what he wants, no matter what he has to do. But what could a witch do to me? There are all kinds of spells...
"Catherine, I'm not going to let anything get to you, okay?" Dean told me as he reached his hand over to mine and squeezed it. He knew I was worried. I forced a smile on my face, but Dean didn't seem convinced.
"That's enough for today. I'll call you later, Sammy," Dean said as he reached for his phone below the window shield. Dean pressed the end button and put his phone on the seat next to me. He pulled me to him with his hand that held mine. I didn't have my seatbelt on, so I slid across the one seat–there was nothing separating it– and he held me to him and rubbed my arm. Dean held me against him and then kissed my forehead.
"You didn't have to hang up on him, Dean. I'm fine," I told him, my voice not changing from the robot like voice.
"No you aren't. It was too much for you," he countered as he stared out the window.
I didn't answer. He was right. It was getting a little overwhelming thinking about what an advantage Edward on us. He has a witch now. He could use a location spell to find me. He could do anything he wanted. Like appear in my dreams.
