Don't Look For Me

Don't look for me in our pictures when you're walking around our near empty apartment. I won't be there, the shadow where I stood was long banished by the sun that woke me from my dreamless slumber. Don't look for me in the things I left behind if you can find any. I won't be there, the scent of me evaporated and left nothing to dream about. Don't think I lied when I said I was leaving. I didn't do it to hurt you, to taunt you, or to make you care. I didn't leave breadcrumbs on my foot prints so you could find me when you wanted me. That wasn't the point. Yes, I left, I really left. I left because I was done waiting. Done waiting for you to care about me, waiting for you to think I was worth as much as her, waiting for the day when you felt lonely enough for my company. You say you're lost, you don't know what you feel. Well, let me tell you what I know. You will never find yourself when you're not looking. As for what you feel, you know the answer to that it just hurts too much to accept it as the truth so you pretend not to know and drag everyone down with you. You won't take me with you, I let you hold me for too long. So don't look for me because when I left I made sure to take everything that was ever mine with me from the breaths I exhaled as I lay next to you hoping you would touch me with even half the love you felt for her to the soft caresses I gave you as we waited for sleep to steal us from each other and fly us to happier worlds where we didn't have to pretend we were what the other wanted.
