Granny and Ashley were making lunch, potatoes and chicken.
Adam went to the store to buy chocolate for granny's cookies and a new bottle for Jacky.
Jackson was playing with his teddy bear,
but not for long...Adam's pov
I needed to go and buy chocolate so mom and Ashley can make cookies. I also found Jackson's bottle in the trash and I just couldn't give it to him now. I went with the car so I'll be quicker. I told mom and Ashley to call me if there's any problem.
I was sure that everything is going to be okay. 'They are just making lunch and Jacky is playing...' I thought 'What's the worst that can happen?'...
I came to the store and I was searching for chocolate. I found the bottle but I've never been in this store so I don't know where they put the chocolate.
Ashley's pov
Me and granny were putting the potatoes in the pot.
I was happy and I couldn't wait for daddy to come back.
I just turned around to see what Jackson is doing but he wasn't there. His toys were... But where could he go?!
I've heard him crying from the outside. I ran out and screamed: "Jackson!"
He was covered in mud. I ran to him.
Granny came running to us. She picked Jacky up and huged him.
He was still crying. I was trying to entertain him so he stops, but that didn't work.
I smelled fire. Granny did too. We turned around and saw the house slowly burst into flames.
I started crying.
Granny just stared at the house frustrated. She didn't say a word.
The fire fighters came, but they were too late now. Everything burned. I held granny tight to her long skirt. My eyes were full of tears. I couldn't stop crying.
When the fire fighters finally exhausted the fire, I asked granny: "What are we going to do now, granny?" She did nothing. She didn't even move since she saw the house on fire.
"The apron. I was so scared for Jackson that I just threw it away. Must have thrown it on the stove... I ruined everything." I was looking at granny with my sad puppy dog eyes. I felt so bad for her.
Daddy came. He saw the house and his mouth stood open for a while. He almost let off a tear but then he saw us behind the house and ran saying: "What happened?!" Granny didn't say anything. I said: "The house was on fire, daddy." "Ashley! I told you not to play with fire!" He looked at the house again. He didn't know what to do either.
"She didn't do it." Said granny looking at Adam. "I did." "How?" "Jackson. He sneaked out and fell in mud. We ran after him and I accidentally threw my apron on the stove." "We'll think of something, daddy. Right?" "Don't you worry about that."
Jackson already stopped crying ... At least something good happened. My ears hurt while listening to him.It started to rain. We didn't know what to do or where to go now. The only idea was to go back to London. We would all live there together then. But then daddy had an idea.
"Maria lives near the park. We could stay there." "Daddy, who's Maria?" "Your aunt, remember?"
I thought and thought and thought and I finally remembered my only aunt. She is as tall as my dad. She has red long hair and brown eyes. She has two kids, boys: Zack and Mark. They're both older than me.
"Yeah, now I do..."
Daddy made a decision: He will take us to aunt Maria.
We didn't have anything to bring with us, except the bottle and the chocolate daddy bought, so we sat in the car and daddy drove us all the way to the central park.
It was such a nice, big and colourful park. It had many high trees which were green, really green. There were roses and tulips and daisies and many more. Kids were playing there and some people were even walking their dogs.
Daddy stopped the car. "Where exactly is her house?" "I think it's that one." And granny pointed on a big nice house near the park. 'Wow! Aunt Maria really knows what she wants.' "You sure mom?" "I-I don't... I don't know." "Let's ask someone."
A man walked by and daddy asked him: "Excuse me sir..." The man stopped. Turned around and said: "Oh. Hello. May I help you?" "Yes, please. We're looking for Maria Cowell. Do you know where she lives?" "Yes. She is that house over there." "OK. Thank you for your help. Have a nice day." "No problem. You too."
"Looks like granny does know where Maria lives." "She's my daughter, of course I know. I just thought that I forgot it."
We got out of the car and stepped to Maria's house. Daddy knocked. My uncle Simon Cowell opened the door.
"Oh hello! Come on in." He said.
We walked in. The house was nice from the outside and the inside. Zack and Mark were out.
Aunt Maria got out of her bedroom, saw us and smiled. "Hi everyone. What brings you here?" "We wanted to ask you something..." Said daddy with his serious voice "Can we stay here for a while now?" "Yeah sure. Why? What happened?" "Mom's house is burned out." "Oh my goodness! How could that happen?! That's terrible!" "We just wanna stay until granny's house is fixed again." I said sadly "OK. Of course you can stay. That's what family is for."
Thanks to aunt Maria we are saved. We can stay in her house for now, because granny's house is gone. It's gonna be built again but it'll take a few days. Maybe one week.
Zack and Mark got back. They bought something for the kitchen and some clothing for themselves.
"Hi!" They both say at the same time. "We haven't seen you all in a while." Said Zack. "Yeah. And you Ashley you grew up really well. Just look at you!" Said Mark.
Aunt Maria told them that we are staying and they were fine with that. After everything that happened... I realised that my life is weird... I don't have luck at all... I hope things get better...
