Once bright night lights no longer provide hope
What was once a warm comforting glow has changed
Warm glows become burning high beams
Burning retinas with images of hopelessness
A once home of city lights have become a cage
Trapping you, your hopes and ambitions while blocking out the star shine
You never wanted the city
But it did its best to consume you, and despite your efforts to fight it off
Despite the hope that you so desperately clung to for all this time
The city smothered you, it covered you in sin and you relished the taste
They say the best captors don't ever let you know that you're in captivity
This city was no exception
It would drown you in its cacophony of commerce
It's deluge of deliberate distraction, this city has no escape
You can be lost in your thoughts, but this city will have you shipwrecked in an ocean of misdirection
When you think you're finally leaving you'll find yourself only falling deeper in
The atmosphere is more intoxicating than the many drinks they pander aimlessly and shamelessly
This city has always seemed so appealing to you, but you know you have to leave
This city has always seemed so appealing to you, and you know you cannot leave
You're trapped
And you still don't even want to escape
