Lil' Chickadees

The rain continuously fell in a downpour outside, leaving the green haired Irish man to quicken his pace. A loud crack of thunder, followed by a fork of lighting caused him to jump nearly a foot off of the ground.

It felt like forever since he had seen a legitimate  thunderstorm, despite how much it rained back home, thunder and lightning wasn't as common as one might think. Which was a shame, considering Jack liked thunder and lightning, it was actually really cool; when he was inside. But of course, now of all times, he had to be caught in the middle of it.

As much of a rush he was in, he had to find a dry place, out of the rain. Searching about, making sure to stay on the same route towards his destination, his blue eyes landed on a worn down building, one that seemed to have seen much kinder years.

He started down the abandoned field surrounding it, thinking the old warehouse would be a decent place to take shelter in, at least until the storm had calmed. There was no way he could make it through with the violent storm going on out there. Not unless he wanted to be fried by lightning.

He made his way through the tall grasses, wishing the sun was out. Just then, Jack stopped, he turned around, sure that he heard something. He looked around for the source, shifting his eyes across the field.

'Are those chicks?' he wondered. A part of him hoped it was. He hadn't seen any chicks in a good while either. Plus, he didn't exactly want to come across another stranger out there.

The sound gradually became sharper, to the point in which Jack was able to pinpoint the direction it came from. Through the dark, he made out a little, yellow ball of fluff. Chirping to it's heart contempt.

"Aw!" Jack said excitedly. It was a lil' chick! Jack couldn't help but smile at the baby chicken. It was so adorable! It noticed him standing there, and waddled up to his feet, chitterling all the while.

"Hey there, little chickadee," Jack said, smiling down at it. The chick twittered back a happy response.

Jack continued walking his path, glad that he found the source of the sound, as well as a new friend. He had a smile plastered on his face, and continued to the building. However, the little chick took to following him, running after him and staying close to his feet.

Jack walked carefully, not wanting to mistakenly step on it. As he continued, more chirps erupted from the field. The other chicks in the field seemed to notice Jack standing in the tall grasses, and made their way over to him, they started following closely behind, making it a bit more difficult for him to walk around.

But Jack didn't really mind, in fact, he liked the thought of leading them out of the rain. Knowing they had nowhere to go, they chose to follow him through the grass. Just the thought of it put the biggest grin on his face.

Just as Jack came up to the building, he found that the door was jammed from the other side.  Fortunately for him though, the building seemed to have a large hole in the wall, just big enough for him to squeeze himself through.

The dozen chicks that had accumulated chirruped away outside, trying to follow him through the hole in the wall, but they weren't quite able to reach it as easily as he was. Despite how much they tried to use their wings to fly into it.

Once he was inside, Jack took a moment to look around for a bit, noticing a large machine against the wall. The place looked abandoned, like everywhere else he had been. As though people hadn't been there in years.

'Can I let the chicks in?' he wondered. He would feel awful if he left them out in that  type of weather. He walked over to the door, grateful to find it wasn't jammed on both sides.
