The phone was ringing and someone was pounding on the door at the same time, I didn't know what to do. I chose to answer the phone, what I heard just about killed me.. "I'm sorry to have to tell you this but your mother died in a plane crash today" I dropped the phone, and fell to the floor sobbing, the pounding on the door not going away. Whoever it was then decided to just come in, finding me on the floor. The person leaned down and picked me up, carrying me over to the couch and sitting down with me on their lap, rocking me back and forth whispering comforting words, words that meant nothing to me at that moment. My whole world was falling apart right then, my mother was dead, my brother was in the army, and my dad had died when I was 2 years old. I was only 16... not yet old enough to live on my own, I was going to have to go into Foster care, no one would want me though, I was to old everyone wants baby's not teenagers.
I sat there, crying for a long time. I don't know if it was minutes, or even hours but eventually the tears stopped flowing and my eyes dried up. I looked up at the person holding me, they didn't look really familiar, but after a minute it clicked in my head, it was my older brothers friend, Isaac, who I had met a few times but never really talked to. He was in the army with my brother but got hurt really bad so they sent him home, his mom refused to let him go back, at least that's what I was told. I was just staring at him completely zoned out, so when he spoke, it kind of scared me. "Are you OK?" He asked. "Honestly? No, no I don't think I am OK right at this moment..." I replied, not sure how to voice my thoughts. It was quiet for a few moments, neither of us sure what to really say, until I decided to speak, "what are you doing here Isaac?.." I asked him, trying to distract myself from the current situation in my life."well...they called Jason and told him about your mom, as soon as he heard he called me and told me to come over here to make sure you were alright..." he replied, looking highly upset. Unlike me, he was really close with my mom seeing as how he was always here, but I never got to know him, I was always up in my room reading a book, never sure how to act around him. I was really shy as a kid, and by the time I somewhat got over it, they had already left for the army. I'm still somewhat shy, but I'm better at ignoring it, and right now that's exactly what I was doing.
My stomach made a really loud, weird growling noise and I realized just how hungry I was. Isaac spoke up "Lets go, I'll take you out to get something to eat. I'm hungry and I know you are to." I tried to tell him no but he cut me off saying I needed to eat, that he wasn't going to just wait around and watch me starve myself, that my mom would be disappointed in me if i did. I knew he was right so i put on a hoodie and some shoes and we left to eat. We went to Joe's Dinner, he got a hamburger and some fries, while i just got some Mac n' cheese. I ate a few bites but mostly, i just picked and poked at it, while he devoured hos food. We left when he finished everything. By the time we made it back to my house it was close to 10 pm, i was really tired so o went up to bed, while he slept in the guest room.
