Chapter 12

Carmen POV

As I hear their snarl, I want to run. But I'm almost the closest to them. If I do, I'll be dead for sure. The Gamemakers have unleashed the dead Careers. I can make them out. With Kimberley's dark pupils and hair. And Serene's bronze beauty paired with her emerald-green eyes. Then, there's Clover, with an ugly snarl plastered on her face. With a big built, she is probably the leader of this pack. Then, there's Kat, with her smaller built, she's barking away. There is also some others. Like Lux's Capitol friend, who's mutt has surgically altered features. There is also Doe and Thimble. With them both sticking together. With this mutt alliance of seven, it is sure to kill. My brain tells me to run. To escape. I jerk my feet just a little and prepare my archer set and my eleven knives. I need to time this right. The other tributes aren't running. They are right behind me, getting ready to run.

Just then, the mutt that is supposed to be "Clover" barks loudly. I start sprinting away quickly. This triggers the mutts to starts chasing after us. Being the first to run is good. I race after I hear the other tributes screaming for their dear lives. Blood soars through the air at the rate of a cheetah running. I manage to escape the District's scenery though. I run straight back to District Two's scenery and awaken my alliance. The mutts are coming. They might be.

I hear the cannons booming like the fireworks on the New Years. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! They go like that for eleven times. That means eleven are dead from this attack.

I look at Lux. He's still drowsy from the medication. Just then, a silver parachute comes down......

Lux POV

I had just awaken by Carmen when a sponsor gift rained on us. This is impossible. I have the pills. And my wound is healing. I don't need any more things.

Carmen opens the gift. It's beautiful. There's a sword in it with a bottle of pills, some bandages and more disinfecting cream. Finally, there is a pair of gloves, a shealth full of arrows and some healing cream. There's also a note attached to it.

"All you need is there. Crystal's sword. Lux's non-drowsy pills and healing cream. And Carmen's gloves and arrows. Oh and don't forget the disinfecting cream and the bandages. The sponsors are counting on all of you to make it."

At the end, it is signed as P and K.

Carmen takes the gloves and her arrows first. I wonder why they sent them. Then I see it. Her fingers are damaged yet again. She has been shooting arrows after the first sponsor gift was sent. Her fingers aren't healed well. She has been concealing the blue-red bruise with the cream. Now, without the cream, her fingers have been so delicate and fragile. They have been bleeding.

She puts them on and tests the new arrows out. They work the same and she never misses her target. After that, she applies some healing cream to her fingers. Crystal tries out her new sword. She's really good at it. She can kill, alright, with that. I think she had one but left it somewhere. Since she's never been using anything but her knives. Carmen also gives Crystal three more knives and gives me four knives. I'm now armed with three tridents, three spears and four knives. Crystal is armed with her thirteen knives and her sword. Carmen owns her two sheaths of arrows and her bow along with her four knives.

The twins later help me disinfect my wound and apply healing cream to it. It's almost done healing. Then, Carmen uses the bandages to wrap my arm up. I'm ready to go. I take another pill and I feel ready enough.

"Lux, stop fighting. Go to sleep again. The wound isn't healed." Carmen insists. But it's true. My wound isn't healed fully.

I don't heed her words but instead goes to scavenge through the backpacks. I find a extra one containing some black berries. They look delicious.

Just as I'm about to eat them, I hear Carmen scream,

"LU-"
