The Next Weekend

"I'm in love with these shoes!" Kayla squealed picking up a pair of studded red heels. "They are so cute." she sighed, looking them over.

Talia, Mark, and I looked at each other and sighed. As always, Kayla was taking the longest time to shop. I sighed and checked my phone - 12:37 p.m.

"Kayla, hurry up! I'm hungry as fuck and I need to go to work in a while." I complained.

"We've been in here for half an hour already." Talia added.

"Awe. You missing your baby already?" she cooed. I rolled my eyes. "I'm done anyways." she  picked up the clothes she wanted and walked to the register.

We waited ouside while she finished paying and headed to the food court. Mark and Kayla were glued together, laughing and smiling at each other.

They are the cutest couple. Mark asked Kayla to Homecoming sophmore year and they've been dating since then. They treat each other right and they respect each other. People say you can't fall in love when you're a teenager because you're too young or your hormones or whatever, but they are. You can just see it.

Talia noticed me looking at them and rolled her eyes playfully. "They make want to be in a relationship. Happy asses." she joked, makig me laughed.

"Me too." You are, I thought. I immediately dimissed it. John and I are not in a relationship.

We all decided to leave the mall and go to Dairy Queen to eat. We were laughing and being stupid and people were giving us looks so we left before we were kicked out.

"Hi, my name is Jazlyn and I will be your server today. What can I can get for you?" I said to the family of five that had just been seated, trying not to sound as bored as I am.

The mom told me they weren't ready to order and I told them I would be back. Turning to walk to the kitchen, I saw Taylor walking in. We made eye contact and I once again felt guilt and .. regret. I regret a lot of things I've done for the past two months.

I looked away from Taylor and froze.

Oh fuck... What is he doing here?

John was talking to Tiffany, the hostess, probably trying to get a table in my section, judging by the way he was smiling at her. Taylor followed my stare and saw John. I turned my back to them and pushed open the kitchen doors.

Heat and the smell of soul food hit me as soon as I walked past the doors. I checked the tickets, grabbed the tray with my table's order and balanced it on my forearm. I refuse to let him get to me so much. I don't know how he knows I work at Tone's but I know that's why he's here.

Walking back through the swing doors, I bumped into Taylor and almost dropped the serving tray.

"My bad. I ain't see you coming out." he apoligized. I glanced at John and back to Taylor.

"It's okay." I said, surprising the both of us. I wasn't planning on saying anything, especially with John literally fifteen feet away, watching me. You're trying to get hurt.

I walked past Taylor and put a smile on my face. I forgot who got what so I called out the order and set the plate in front of whoever raised their hand. After telling them to enjoy their meal, I waited on an older couple to figure out what they wanted.

I could have left them and waited on John but I was stalling. There was no one else in my section and the restuarant was closing in a hour and a half, so buisness was slowing down.
