I was jerked awake suddenly, and almost forget where I was. I looked out the window and everything crashed down onto me again, and I smiled. Not having a place to live, having little money, and a few pairs of jeans and some tee shirts didn't bother me, not one bit. I was going to do this, I was going to make it and prove my parents wrong, I didn't depend on their money and guidance. I was an independent woman now, and I could do as I please.
The weather looked beautiful outside, but I could be mistaken because it was still early morning outside,, and my heart thudded in my chest. I was actually in Florida. I was in Miami, landing in the Miami International Airport. I was almost 3000 miles away from home, I was shaking I was so excited.
"Passengers, please fasten your seatbelts, we are preparing to land shortly." the pilot said over the intercom and as I fastened the belt over my waist, I was thinking of what to do first. Well, I would have to call a cab and have them drop me off in the city somewhere. From my little bit of research I did, I knew Miami was full of opportunity, and had a pretty dangerous night crowd, I was going to try and make my first night here as uneventful as possible, and that meant looking for a job and a place to live as soon as I could.
After the plane landed, I dragged myself and my suitcase to a customer help desk and asked for a cab. It took about 5 minutes, and I loaded myself in.
"Where to miss?" asked the driver, he had a thick English accent and reminded me of my late grandmother, it was a comforting feeling.
"Just to the Main road of the city I suppose. I'm not from around here and I need a place to crash for a few days until I get a job." I explained to him.
"Oh, you don't have housing or a job lined up already?" he asked, his eyebrows raised in surprise.
"No, this was kind of a spur of the moment thing." I told him, not really wanting to give out information about myself.
"Well, if you don't mind me saying, I know of a job you could have almost instantly, and it comes with a place to live as well." he told me, and for the first time since I left Los Altos, I felt a spring of hope in my chest.
"Really? Oh my god, you have to tell me. I am willing to do anything. I just want to prove my parents wrong and show them I can live on my own without their help." I told him and he gave me a small smile.
"Well then, this is the perfect gig for you." he said and he took a sharp turn off the highway. He drove down a couple of main roads until we reached a residential looking area, and we stopped in front of this gorgeous Spanish style manor. It was breath taking.
"Is this the place I would live in?" I asked, my mouth practically on the ground.
"Yes ma'am, but listen, there's a catch to all this, and once you hear what your job is all about, and once you meet your bosses, you can't turn back. And that's a promise." he warned me, and I felt a little scared.
"What could they possibly be doing?" I asked, mostly to myself.
"Either you hear from me, or them directly, but once you hear this, you cannot walk away from here with this information." he told me, and I took a deep breath.
"Well, lead me inside." I told him, and he smirked. He took my suitcase from the trunk, and he entered a number on the pinpad on the gate, and it creaked open. We stepped inside the property, and the gate swiftly closed behind us. In the semi circle driveway were these gorgeous cars. BMW's, Audis, Lexus', things my parents wouldn't even consider driving. We walked up the front stairs, and he knocked twice before opening the door and stepping inside.
