Of all the sneezes in history that must have gone down

There is one sneeze - UNsneezed - whose effect was profound

Martin Luther King was signing books in NYC

in 1958, when a mentally ill lady

named Izola Curry - unexpectedly -

stabbed him with a letter opener in the chest

He was 29 years old, just getting his start

when the 7 inch blade barely missed his heart

It stayed there in his chest - while he waited for the ambulance

It stayed there for hours - til doctors had a chance

to save him from the danger he was in

IMAGINE!

A tickle ... an itch ... a teensy weensy wheeze

A twitch in his nose which caused him to sneeze

with that letter opener lodged against his heart beating

Had he sneezed on September 20, 1958

He would never have DREAMED in his 1963 speech

And what would the world be without that dream?

Without his words of hope and possibility?

Seriously-

where in the world would we be

without the epic UNsneeze of Martin Luther King?
