Chapter 1
Me [Lauren]
It was late Sunday night and I had to be up early for work, I was starting my new job tomorrow and I really wanted to make a good impression. You see, I was going to be part of a brilliant team. You’ve heard of Russell Howard’s Good News right, well, I was going to be the new editor for that and I could not wait. I loved the show and Russell, he was just… BRILLIANT! It was 10:50pm and I needed some sleep, off to bed I go.
The next morning I was woken up by my alarm going off. “Oh... for...” Mumbling to myself I turned over to my left and waked my alarm. I didn’t want to get up but then I realised what day it was. “Shit, don’t want to be late on my first day.” I jumped up of bed wearing my grey shorts and blue tank top. I ran to the bathroom grabbing my towel from the rack on the door and jumped into the shower. About 20 minutes I was done and back in my bed room and dressed in my tight jeans, white blouse and black blazer with my white convers boots.
Arriving at the studious I walked through the front doors, I was so nervous and been jumped on by the receptionist didn’t help.
“Erm, excuse me, can I see your pass please.” The young woman behind the desk stood up and stared at me. I was so worried I had forgotten my pass but luckily I hadn’t and pulled it out of my bag and showed it to her. “Ok, off you go.” She gave me a quick smiled and sat back down. I quickly walked down the corridor and looked for… anyone really.
About 10 minutes of looking round and trying to find someone, I bumped into someone dropping my phone, my pass and my bag. “Oh cock.., sorry.” A man’s voice eccoed down the hall and I didn’t notice who it was as I had crouched down to pick my things up and the man joined me. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to walk into you; I’m such a clumsy twat.” He picked my phone up and my pass; he passed me my phone but looked at my pass.
“It’s fine, my fault I wasn’t really looking.” I grabbed my bag and was stopped by the man putting his hand on my shoulder.
“So you’re Lauren, I’ve heard so much about you.” The man chuckled slightly and I finally looked at him, it was him, Russell was the man I had just walked into.
“Yeah, I-I know who you.., are.” I smiled at him as we got up, my cheeks went read and I looked at him again.
“Come with me, you look lost, am I right.” He gave me another smile and I nodded my head. I followed Russell down the corridor, to the right and into a room; I noticed the room from various videos on YouTube. “Mark, I found our mystery girl.” Russell walked over to mark, which I had met before and smiled to him.
“Oh, hey Lauren, was getting worried about you, didn’t Natalie bring you down. She’s so.., doesn’t matter, I’ll show you round.” Mark walked over to me and before we could even walk through the door his phone rang. A few minutes late he hung up and sighed. “Sorry, got to go, my little en’ is ill.., err, I’ll get someone to show you round.”
“I’ll do it.” I looked over to the voice in the corner; it was Russell, hearing him shout out like that was.., sweet.
“Ok…” I smiled over to him and he returned it. I felt so comfortable around him.
“So this is the wardrobe area, thing. This is make-up and this is the studio, the stage.” He walked in front and turned round. I was so mesmerized by it all, it was brilliant. “You.., OK.” Russell seemed to be really concerned for me but I was fine.
“Yeah, just, I can’t believe I’m here. It sounds weird but I love your show and y…” I stopped the words from coming out of my mouth.
“And what?” He looked straight at me smiling slightly.
“Your sense of humor, it’s great.” I looked to my feet and could feel him staring at me.
