"Carter! What a surprise. What can I do to help you?" Mrs. Perez asked.
"I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I will be running with Amelia for homecoming," I respond.
"Oh that's wonderful! Since I have you here, we can disc-." She was cut off by someone opening the door. We both turned and saw Amelia walk in. "Amelia! Great timing! I was just about to start telling Carter about the homecoming requirements."
"Requirements?" Amelia and I questioned in unison.
"Well yes. There are certain things you have to do to continue being in the running." Mrs. Perez responded. "So first, you will have to run a clean campaign. No talking about the other nominees, no name calling, we want it clean."
"It's not a Student Council Campaign," mutters Amelia, so low that only I hear.
"Next, you have to put up posters showing you guys are running. I have to approve of these posters, so before you put any up, you need to come and show me." Mrs. Perez looked at us with an expecting look on her face.
"Okay- umm what else? Oh yes! Everything you use to get votes has to show that you are both running together. When the students vote, your names will be on the ballot together. So Carter can't win by himself, and Amelia you can't win by yourself."
"Is that all?" I ask. All I came here for was to tell her who I was running with, but then she just dropped all this stuff on us.
"Actually, if you'd both be dears, could you tell the rest of the kids the rules?" She said with a smile on her face.
I look at Amelia to get her approval. All I get is a small shrug. Good enough for me. "We will," I respond for the both of us.
"Thanks! Now both of you get to class. Do you need passes?" Mrs. Perez writes out passes for the both of us, and basically kicks us out of her office.

"Vote for Kaden and Mackenzie for homecoming court," a freshman says, as she gives me a chocolate with a paper that says 'Kaden and Mackenzie'. It's literally been two hours since I told Kaden that we had to do "campaigning".I unwrapped the chocolate and popped into my mouth. It was actually pretty good. It had like a bit of co-. What I'm I thinking! This is the competition's candy! Damn I seriously sound like a girl. Whatever happened to Miles a couple of years ago has really screwed me up. But one thing is for sure, we would win.
I keep walking towards the cafeteria, and kept getting weird looks. Maybe I still have chocolate on my face. I reach up and wipe my face. Nope not a thing. As I arrive, I hear people already having multiple conversations with their friends, but the loudest one is the one I sit at. The table with the jocks and the cheerleaders. It's so stereotypical. The jocks sit with the jocks and the nerds sit with the nerds. I never really understo-.
"Carter! Come on over!" Someone, I assume from the table, was shouting. I began to walk towards the table, and as I was about to get there, movement caught my eye. I turned to see Amelia sitting by herself, reading. She looked so peaceful and calm.
"Carter! Hurry up dude! What're you looking at?" The voice yelled again. "Are you, no? Why? No, you wouldn't....Are you checking out my sister?"
I quickly glance back towards the table and see Joey shooting daggers at me. "No I wasn't. I was just thinking that Amelia and I need to-"
"If I could have your attention." The talking in the cafeteria stopped, and every head turned to see Mrs. Perez standing with a microphone.
"Thank you. Now I know you all want to keep on eating-" someone cut her off by shouting "Yea we would!" "-but I'd like to take this time to announce the nominees of this year's homecoming court!"
