James's POV

"The fuck?" James opened his eyes and wobbled onto his feet, dizziness threw him back onto the sharp rocks that laid under him, which sent a yell and a ricochet of pain shoot through his spine. "FUCK!"

His eyes darted back and forth, from one boulder on the rocky hill side to the next. "A-Aleks," he said, panic rising. James's best friend was no where to be seen. "ALEKS," he yelled again, but to James's dismay, his friend didn't reply.

James struggled to his feet once more and hung onto a boulder for balance. He noticed he was wearing nothing but a ragged pair of pants. James touched his long, black, curly hair, which was still in a messy bun. He looked down from the hill into a grassy valley, the sky was bright pink and orange to signal darkness to sweep over the land.

"Goddamnit." James looked around and noticed a small shack up the hill. There wasn't a light on. A grin appeared as he clambered over the sharp rocks to reach his destination.

His hands groped a empty doorway, expecting a door handle to welcome him. Sighing, James sat down quickly, and noticed there was no floor. James curled up into a ball in the corner of the shack, "Shit shack," he muttered. He soon laid down instead, his hands landed on something other than rock. James gasped, thinking it was a snake or something. There was no snake that bit him, he gripped the item again and held it against the small rays of sunlight that still shone, it was a pickaxe.

James waved it about the small space, testing it. He soon found a torch as well. "I-I should probably get some stuff," James said to himself," I'll get some shit done while Aleks is gone." He tried not to think of the possibility that Aleks is dead. He couldn't be, Aleks was with him a few hours earlier...wasn't he?

James creeped out the door, it was dark now, very dark. He was tempted to use his torch, but what if there was other people, they might have seen Aleks. Excited, he lit up the torch with the pickaxe still in his grasp.

James's stomach growled loudly, maybe he could find some food as well. In the valley, James waved the torch in front of him, scattering attracted moths. The no moon nor stars were present in the sky to witness this act of pure idiocy.

James's body froze as and arrow whizzed past his ear. Screaming, James dropped his torch into the dry grass that went up in flames. As if on cue a gruff voice echoed behind him. "Fucking idiot!" Out of terrified desperation James swung the pickaxe into the unknown figure.

The man let out a blood curdling scream and pushed James away, which forced the pickaxe to find it's way to James. Fire licked his feet, James jumped back from the rising flames. A man holding a bow dodged the flames in front of him. Cream colored cloth was wrapped around his head, and other than his pants he wore nothing else. James whipped around, still yelling in pain from the fire. Another man dressed the same loomed in front of James, except where his right eye used to be it was now a bloody hole.

James pushed past the screaming man and sprinted towards the familiar rocks. Turning his head, he noticed five cloaked figures descend upon the men, quickly dispatching them. A figure then pointed up the hill where James went, the figure ran, and the rest followed suit.

James threw himself behind a boulder and tried not to breath. He quickly realized that he was crying, James basically just got two men killed, yeah they tried to kill him but they were just trying to survive. Now he's gonna die, hm, he never even got to find Aleks. James didn't even notice the figures in front of him.

"HAHA," a man laughed, "crying now are we?" "Wow, never thought we'd scare anyone like this," another man said, chuckling, "hmm, probably new." New?

"If you're going to kill me just do it," James yelled, choking up. "Gladly," the first voice said. James saw an outline of a gun. James closed his eyes as tears streaked down his face. A gunshot pierced his ears, but realized that bullet wasn't for him.

Opening his eyes, he saw the leaders body crumple to the ground. "WHAT THE FUCK," the others fell back. James grunted as an arm curled around his chest and pulled him around the boulder.

James heard a smooth female voice, "Now, now, don't give up that easily, it's what they want." A hard fist smashed down the side of his head which sent James into a deep sleep.
