"STAY AWAY FROM ME! JUST STAY AWAY!" She screamed as she ran through the cold February winds. The cold air burned her throat and lungs as she ran, seeming to slow her down with every step of her foot as it hit the pavement. This is the story of Haven, a young girl with a morose story to tell.
Her life seemed fairly normal, she was nineteen with a successful future ahead of her. When she was sixteen, her father was diagnosed with cancer, stage three, and was given three to five months to live. He passed away four months later, just a few weeks shy of Haven's seventeenth birthday. The man that she loved more than life itself was gone. No more summer evenings in the car just driving around and talking, no more ice cream daddy/daughter dates on Sunday afternoons, no more memories would be made with her father. She cried for many days, until she didn't think that her beautiful green eyes would produce those salty drops of pain anymore. Days came and went, and her mother had remarried and had two more children. Haven loved her new siblings dearly, but she didn't much care for her new step-father. No one would ever be able to replace her father, they'd get nowhere close to it. Like cobwebs stuck to the top of a chandelier, the relationship between Haven and her step-father was hard to clean up. Her mother tried her best, but to no avail. "Will you please try to bond with Neil? He would like to be a father figure to you." "How can you stand there and say that? No one will EVER be able to fill the shoes of my REAL father! If someone were to ever even come close to it, I sure as hell wouldn't want it to be him!" She ran to her bedroom and slammed the heavy door. How could her mother say that?! Did she ever love Haven's father, HER HUSBAND?!
