My name is Loraine Sedgwick, and I am 16. I always thought of myself as average but with my deep brown hair, light golden eyes and petite, shapely figure; my mom says I am far from that. I am a sophomore at Orchid Academy. My father died when I was twelve from a car accident, so it's just me and my mother, and my mom is trying her hardest to cope and deal with the situation as am I. Sometimes I feel like I have these big gaps in my memories. I can't remember anything from when I was twelve or before that. This morning is the same as I always I woke up and got ready for school. I put on our uniform, white button down shirt and red plaid skirt, and head out the door carrying all of my luggage with me; not having enough time for breakfast my mother hugged me before I left and she gave me a kiss and said.

"Make sure you eat properly and don't stress yourself out too much Sweetie!"

"Of course, mom!" I said with a laugh.

As I was running out the door I bumped into Alice Sadler, my best friend since I became a student at Orchid Academy. She has a body built for sports and short black hair with hazel eyes to match. She is always so laid back and doesn't worry about anything. I am sometimes jealous of her easy-going attitude.

"Oof! Raine, what are you running so fast for!? I was just about to come pick you up so we could walk together!" she said. I stare at her baffled. "Do you realize what time it is?! We are going to be late even if we run, and we are wasting time talking right now!"

She sighed and waved her hand dismissively. "Don't be so uptight Raine!" Alice grabs my hand as we start running towards school. "We will make it!"

After three minutes of all out running, we were breathing heavily by the time we got through the gates, and as Alice said we had just made it in. I wiped the sweat of my forehead and composed myself as I walked through the doors of my school. If you haven't you guessed yet this is an uptight private boarding school for the most elite and snooty students, I only made the cut because of my academic scholarship. There are four elites and they are the most intelligent and richest students in the school. They are all feared because they have the power to expel students along with the director, who has the most power. There is one part of this school that only the elites can enter, which is the elite ground. I really wish I could leave, but this is the only option since my mother doesn't have enough money to pay for high school. Alice has a pretty wealthy family, so they have enough money to pay for the school. Both of her parents work hard but they still maintain a wonderful family relationship.

As I was walking to my dorm someone bumped into me.

"Watch where you're going commoner! You don't want to lose that precious scholarship of yours!" said Vivian as she laughed walking away.

I clenched my fists in anger as I got to my locker. Vivian Harrington, the second elite, and the second most intelligent and richest student in the school. She is a blond with blue eyes and an enticing smile she is taller than most girls and all the guys go nuts for her. She is also the cruelest wench in the entire world. She once got an innocent student expelled for spilling soda all over her favorite outfit. I just try to avoid her at all costs. I got my books from my dorm, and I walked to Honors Chemistry. Since it was the first day of the new school year everyone was choosing their new partners. Alice was in this class so I sat down and when I spotted her I called her over. She was about to sit when Cassidy sat right beside me, the seat my best friend was supposed to sit in.
