When I sat down at my laptop back at my office, I could hear Stalkuma and Stalkomi chattering away in the background. I much preferred it to the silence that had hung over the room from the last time I was in here.
I opened up the Kuranin file and added all sorts of information to it. I won't give the specifics because, in case you don't already know, that information is highly classified to the members of the legal world.
Once it was done, I went over to the email section of my laptop's tabs. I sent out a quick alert to everyone to begin a search for Dee Vil and Dark Ness. They were still out there somewhere, and I hated that, so I wanted them in jail as soon as possible.
After the email had been sent out, I sat back in my chair, letting it recline slightly. I sighed in relief, closing my eyes. So much had gone on the past few days. A serial killer had been on the loose, somebody weird was calling Interpol (though I didn't know who yet, so I'd have to ask a few other people about that), and in the end, the main bad guy was caught.
The thought made me feel better about all of this. I was sad that it was over, despite all this, however. I thought that maybe, just maybe, I was starting to make friends and create positive relationships despite my social awkwardness, which usually kept me alone with Clarith and Neptune.
And now that it was all over, who knew if we would ever work together again? There was a high chance that I wouldn't ever see Celosia, Milan, Connor, or Vesgate again since they don't work with Interpol like M, N, F, and I.
Then again... Friends don't just split up like that. They stick together through thick and thin, and a single case ending doesn't change that.
This thought in mind, I sighed in relief. My eyes opened. The victims had not died in vain, that was for sure. We had caught an insane madman and knew his accomplices. Not to mention all of the friendships that formed... And how wonderful they are...
Stalkuma and Stalkomi were still talking, most likely whispering about Clarith and I. They had been doing that ever since I first saw her... They claimed that we were an adorable 'ship'. I denied that I knew what that meant most of the time, but deep down, I knew rather well thanks to K-
My laptop beeped, cutting off my thoughts. I gasped and began to check my email tab. It was from F. She was going to send out a search party for the escaped criminals with help from the local police force. Soon, every police officer in the city was going to be on watch for them.
I sighed in relief that it wasn't yet another serial killing. I had been through enough of those these past few days. I couldn't even think of a certain somebody I know rather well with this in mind.
"Are you thinking about Ms. Clarith again?"
I let out a small screech and looked to Stalkomi, who looked into my eyes with her beady ones. "You startled me...!" I whispered.
"Sorry," Stalkomi apologized. "But are you thinking of her again? You have that distant look in your eyes again."
"I'm not. You two get ready to go. Speaking of Clarith, we need to go check on her back at GatherLaw," I told them.
"Okay!" Stalkuma and Stalkomi chirped in sync. They ran around looking for things to take with us. Most of the time, they were random things I had to put back once I came back. They didn't understand that all of this stuff belonged here at Interpol and not in my room back home...
With the Stal twins no longer distracting me, I turned back to my laptop. I exited out of all my tabs and went to click on the 'power down' icon. I clicked it swiftly and waited for the screen to go black.
When it did, I closed the top of it and glanced around the office. It had all started right here in this very room... The case of the Kuranin, well, at least my role in the story, began right here in this exact chair. Same position and everything.
I couldn't believe that it had only been five days. It felt like five lifetimes filled with friendship and happiness. Well... Except from when Clarith was kidnapped... She was panicking so much then...
But that aside, things were pretty good... Oh yeah. The Stal twins were disassembled. I forgot about that part, too...
Well, other than those two things, I must say that investigating with my friends was quite a fun time. I have all sorts of stories to tell Clarith now... I'm sure that I'll get a few days off to talk to her after my great performance here.
I continued to look around the room as the faces of my new friends flashed through my mind. Even now, they made me happy. I loved them all so much...
Platonic love, I mean. Clarith is the only one I'll love that way, if you know what I mean.
I opened my laptop bag and slipped my laptop inside of it. I smiled as I did so. The noise of the fabric as it distorted to allow the laptop to enter was satisfying in its own way. Either that or I'm in too good of a mood right now...
I shrugged it off and rose to my feet. "Time to go," I announced, putting a file Stalkuma had grabbed back. I did the same to a coaster Stalkomi had.
As we walked for the door, a few thoughts danced through my mind. One was that I was so happy that this was all over... Another was that I didn't mind work as much anymore... Well, less than I used to. And finally... I did a bunch of good in the world.
I was so happy the council of crime had finally been caught.
