It's a typical Monday morning in the suburbs. 7am wake up call by my Mother shouting 'Amelia' over and over until she gets a reply. I get ready, eat and then grab a ride to school off my ever-so embarrassing Father. I walk in and greet my little clique of not-so popular friends. We have Sarah, the one all of the guys want to be with, she's been my best friend practically my whole life. Since our mothers' are the founders of their little Wednesday afternoon book club and studied at college together, we've known each other our whole lives. Next we have Tiffany, the nicest girl you will ever meet, honestly she has never even muttered a mean word in her life. She joined our school about 7 months ago and we've adopted her into our group. Then we have Katie. Katie is pretty much a rock goddess. Her Dad toured with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, she's got that edgy vibe to her with the bright red hair, she's our very own Hayley Williams with the attitude to match. Since we're all in the same English class we always agreed to meet at the steps of the main entrance and do our daily routine trips to each persons locker then to English, as that's our first class. But before we could leave to go to our lockers for some reason the girls wouldn't move and were ogling someone who was behind me. I briskly turn around to see a tall, dark haired, leather jacket wearing guy hop off a motorcycle. Rolling my eyes i can see he's going to be trouble and a huge heartbreaker. Turning back around to grab the attention of the gang so we won't be late for English I shove Sarah which then makes a domino affect on the rest to make them budge.'If I don't get a ride on that motorcycle in the next few weeks I have failed as a woman' Sarah says.
'You're 17, you ain't no woman yet' I joke.
We all laugh and headed to our lockers.
As we approach English our teacher Ms. Frances, a.k.a. the most coolest teacher you'll ever come across in your life, was standing outside, now I'm not one for rebelling etc... since my Dad is the board of schools in the area we live in, so whatever I do gets reported straight back to him, anything lower than an A- and he'll be right on my back about it. But this teacher, Ms. Frances lets us get away with anything, she doesn't believe in punishing, only learning from your mistakes with bad karma. She had a stern face on as we approached and didn't look too pleased. Katie asked her what was up and she replied 'everyone must stand at the front of the classroom and not say a word.'
Me and the girls all looked at each other confusingly and did as she said. As we walked in I noticed that the guy from the parking lot was also here. Great. He must be in our English, that means there's a high chance he could be in other classes. That's another hooligan to distract me from my straight A's.
*sigh*
We waited patiently for everyone to pile in and for Ms Frances to tell us what the hell was going on. Everyone was muttering amongst each other. I was just in my own little world but I could feel someone's eyes burning into the side of my head. I turned to my right to see the motorcycle guy staring at me with an intrigued look on his face. I pulled a confusing look and turned back to the girls.
Ms Frances eventually came in, slammed the door and walked to the back of the classroom. I could see a disappointing look on her face.
'Now I've been warned off the Principle that if I don't get my act together I'm gonna lose you lot as an English class, so I've decided to put you in allocated seats so you lot can concentrate on passing this class so I don't have to host a Summer School and you guys don't have to come to it.'
Everyone groans.
'Stop moaning, it won't be like this forever. Now, I've put your names where you should be sitting. I have a copy of this plan so there will be no swapsies.'
As I search the room for my name I eventually find it at the back. Of course she sits me at the back, I'm the boards daughter she should be able to trust me. I sit down and look at the name next to me. it reads 'Jay Harrison'. I don't recognise this name, it's probably just someone I've not really paid attention too, I tend to stick to my friends and not venture out of our clique.
I settle down and grab my stationary and books from my bag when I hear the chair next to me scrape across the floor, must be this guy Jay, he's found his seat. I'm about to introduce myself to him when I freeze. Oh my god. It's him. Why has she done this! She's sat me next to some sort of hooligan! Is this a joke? Is he just in the wrong seat? Oh god I cannot spend the majority of this year sat with him, he's probably been kicked out of a billion schools and probably has a criminal record. Brilliant.
'You must be Amelia Montgomery, Hi. I'm Jay.'
'Nice to meet you Jay.' I awkwardly say.
My god. He's beautiful.
NO! Amelia don't. You can't be distracted. Focus on English. We're studying The Great Gatsby. Keep that on your mind.
He can see me being uncomfortable, he can sense my nervousness. I can see him smirking in the corner of my eye.
Ugh! He annoys me already. But wow he smells good.
My phone vibrates in my pocket, I grab it out. It's Sarah. It reads,
'How come you get to set next to the new hottie and I'm stuck with Slimy Scott, send help pls'
I snigger.
'What you giggling at?' Jay says.
'Nothing. Just a text'
'Ahhhhh. I see.' He says with a mysterious tone in his voice.
'What, what do you see?'
'Sending steamy texts during school. Tut. Tut. You wouldn't want your Dad to hear about this now would you?'
'Are you serious?! I would never send "steamy texts"! You're disgust- wait, you know who my Dad is?'
'Doesn't everyone, you're the boards Daughter, he practically owns everyone in this school. Of course I know about you and you're Dad.'
'Alright then... Stalker.'
'You wish babe.'
'Ew.'
This is definitely going to be a long year.
