 *Francis's POV*

I watch my son lead the group of pack guards toward my father standing at the doors of the castle. They disappear inside, but I turn, instead pacing the outside walls. After the argument I had with my father the last time I saw him, I want nothing to do with him.

A growl of frustration escapes me again as I think about the fact that Jacob blatantly disobeyed my orders to kill the witch. He acts as if my orders are optional, I think to myself, not for the first time that night. They all do. But they wouldn't last a day without me.. Not a single one of them. I'm the reason they're all still alive, I keep them safe. I do my job, which is more than I can say for half the Alpha's my father has chosen to lead packs in our kingdom.

The doors to the castle open up again and Jacob steps out, my father beside him with his hand on his shoulder, looking at him like a proud father looks at his strongest son. They smile and my son nods his head before hugging my father tightly.

My stomach clenches at the sight and I turn, closing my eyes as I shake my head. You mustn't let your feelings get the better of you Francis, I tell myself. It isn't worth wasting your energy on.

"Father," Jacob says, startling me as he walks up to me. His eyes, my  eyes, are sparkling in the light of the moon. "Are we ready to return back to the village now?"

I look around, nodding at each of my pack before looking back at him. "You lot go ahead, I've got some business to attend to regarding Barbara."

Jacob visibly tries to hide his distaste at the mention of my second mate. He doesn't approve, not that I need the approval of my son to do the things I want, but at least he has enough sense not to voice his opinion on the matter. "Alright," He says respectfully. "When will you be returning?"

I shake my head. "I'm not sure. I'll send word when I know."

"Yes, sir." He bows his head, standing tall, as if he still serves as a member of the League.

"Make sure to keep up on patrols and trainings." I remind him, backing away quickly. "And tell your mother I love her."

 "Of course father,"

 "Goodbye, son."

He blinks. "Until you return, father."

I turn at that, jogging first but slowly picking up speed until the countryside is just a blur. I don't want any of them to be able to follow me to my other home. Although nobody has ever tried before, I still want to play it safe. Especially if my plan is going to work the way I want.
