Chapter 32
Michael’s POV
You’ve got to be kidding me.
I watched as who I assumed to be Cole, jumped out of the truck and stormed up the sidewalk in my direction. Sighing, I stood up and placed the lily down on the porch swing. I walked forward, ready to stand my ground when Cole stopped in his tracks.
That’s odd. I watched as Ivy jumped out of the car, running after Cole.
“Cole! Just wait a second, I’m sure there’s an explanation -“she trailed off, also stopped in her tracks. Okay, now I’m confused.
Ivy seemed to come back to her senses, as she walked past Cole, who reached out and grasped her shoulder. She shook him off as she got closer.
“Michael?” she whispered. I smiled at how cute she was, squinting into the sun up at me. I stood up and ran a hand through my hair as I stepped down off the porch, out of the shadows. I watched Ivy as she looked me over, head to toe. I was about to speak when I saw Cole behind her, glaring daggers at me.
I glared back, wondering what the h*ll this guy’s problem was. Ivy seemed to notice the tension as she looked between the two of us. Cole suddenly moved in front of Ivy, shielding her from me.
“Cole!” she said, as she peeked around him. He held her back as he continued to glare at me.
“Who are you and why are you here?” Cole asked me, his voice thick with venom.
“Okay, I don’t know who you are, but I’m not going to hurt Ivy so stop acting like I’m going to!” I snarled back, clinching my hands into fists, and stepping closer till I was only about a foot away from him. We glared daggers at each other, waiting for the other to make the first move.
“Okay, ENOUGH!” Ivy shouted, startling us both. She shoved between Cole and me, putting a hand on both of our chests to keep us back. Cole put his hand around her wrist, ready to pull her back if I was to lunge at him, which was quiet tempting at the moment.
She whipped her head around and glared at him, making him release her wrist and look away. I watched as his shoulders slumped and he backed away a bit. I snorted at how he backed down to a girl when Ivy whipped her head around, sending me a glare as well.
I flinched as I stepped back as well, no understanding why Cole reacted the way he did. Ivy stood between us, her arms crossed over chest as she looked between us in disappointment.
“Okay, now that you children are under control, Michael this is Cole. Cole this is Michael,” she said motioning between the two of us. We didn’t say anything, just glared at each other again.
Ivy cleared her throat making us both jump and cast our eyes down.
“Now, I really don’t understand what that was all about, but let’s try and be civil. Please,” she said, suddenly sounding exhausted. I glanced up to see she had circles under her eyes from lack of sleep.
Cole was looking at her as well, worry etched across his face. With one last glance between the two of us, as if to make sure we weren’t going to attack, she brushed past me and into the house, leaving the door open behind her.
Not sure what to do, I waited as Cole brushed past me, bumping my shoulder rather hard.
“Watch it,” I growled as I followed behind him and into the house, the lily left on the porch, forgotten.
