Gone. Cass felt her heart sink. Ten was holding it together but struggling. She wasn't crying and she wasn't sure why. Taeyong had left the room before he sobbed so he wouldn't be embarrassed. Her dad had comeback to surprise her for her birthday and now he was gone. Hit by a car running the lights. A few blocks from their house. Without seeing his daughter. Anyone else would be crying but Cass just stared at the floor in disbelief. She felt empty. And useless.
It sounded stupid but what she wanted more that anything else was a hug. Ten gave good hugs, he'd always been able to. His hugs were like the comfort of a cool drink on a hot day. Taeyong's hugs had improved since they started dating. His hugs felt like a warm blanket on a cold day. But Cass didn't want this. She needed comfort. She needed security. She needed her dad.
*******(time skip)*******
Cass stood in the middle of her room, still, watching Ten move around packing a bag for her. Ten had been worried about her after she found out the news so asked his parents if she could stay for a while. Of course they said it would be fine so he was helping her move in. Well more like he was moving her in while she watched.
When her bag was packed, Ten intertwined their fingers and led her downstairs and out of the house. Their houses were a five minute walk away from each other but the walk felt like forever. The sound of camera shutters closing could be heard the whole way to the house but Ten didn't let go of her hand. He didn't care what the netizens would say. Cass needed him right now. He was a human before he was an idol. Ten tried to talk to Cass but after multiple failed attempts he understood she wasn't in the mood for small talk.
Arriving at the house Ten's mum flung her arms around Cass and wept into her shoulder. The petite woman sobbed uncontrollably but Cass didn't flinch. Ten's mum had always cared for her when her dad was away since her mum had left but Cass couldn't comfort her.
Calmly Ten walked Cass up to the spare room and unpacked her bags. She was still in her concert clothes from the night before, a short blue dress and white knee high socks with white trainers now covered in dirt from the sleep at the hospital, so Ten removed her shoes and socks without a word. He took some make up removal wipes from his mothers bathroom and cleaned her face although there wasn't much left.
After taking a shower and changing into a pair of basketball shorts and one of Tens hoodies, Cass sat on the edge of the bed looking at the ground. Taeyong had gone home to sleep when Ten took Cass home, saying he would come back later. Cass's phone buzzed next to her as Doyoung tried calling her. Taeyong had said he would tell the others about what had happened so she knew what the call would be about. She couldn't take Doyoung's mothering right now so she let the call go to voicemail. Shortly after Ten and his parents came in to say they would be going to bed and they'd see her in the morning but Cass didn't move other than mumbling a good night to Ten when he hugged her.
As the door shut Cass fell back onto the bed waiting for a sleep she knew would never come.
